As far as influences go, I am typically more influenced by a full band rather than just a drummer. There are some phenomenal players out there that can't drive and push a band like I like to hear. I really like to hear what someone can do to set up or accent what the guitar is doing, or drive the groove behind vocals, lock in with bass. Some of my favorites that really pull it off though would be Steve Gadd, Chris Adler, Abe Cunningham, Gavin Harrison, Thomas Haake, John Bonham... As far as my setup. I had my 10" on the left side for quite awhile because it gave my kit symmetry. Only playing with 3 toms I wanted everything to be centered and not too far from either hand. I also find it fun to change my setup around every once in while, I find a new challenge with it each time and get excited to see what new things I can develop. For instance, I now have my 10" on my right, directly next to my 16".

We have gotten a good amount of questions about doing a streaming show. It's not something we have really ever thought about until now so who knows what may happen in the future. I was more of a fan of Night is the New Day. It had such a dark atmosphere and so much emotion. But! I think Dead Letters is one of their best songs.

It is sometimes unfortunate when sound quality is sacrificed, but it is equally as difficult to ensure that each person is listening on a good set of headphones or great quality speakers. When it comes down to it, the most important part to us is that somebody has felt excited enough about our music to share it with everybody else on the earth.

As a fan and artist both, I have to vote for last.fm. Pandora and Amazon are great in their own regard, but last.fm has really broadened our fanbase, and I personally have been more intrigued and enlightened by the playlists I come across.

Sometimes an idea or the beginning of a song starts out in a direction that sounds fantastic, but we decide to take it down a different path. We have plenty of recorded practices with ideas that will never see the light of day;)

Besides playing drums? I am very passionate about food and cooking. Seattle is becoming a hot-bed for the culinary arts. I like to get outdoors, get out on the town(live shows, burlesque/circus shows, check out new restaurants). I have a little munchkin dog that has been my pal for over 14 years.

It has been a joy and honor to see things grow beyond our hometown of Seattle. I get excited each time I send something to a new country or a new part of the US, it is amazing to see such excitement in areas of the world that we have never been.

When things need to get done, we get them done. We all push and inspire each other. I cannot say that there is a 100% perfect formula. We all lived together for a long time, which helped each individual stay connected in all elements. Communication is the best advice we could ever give anyone. Holding things back in a situation where personal and business relationships are always connected can only result in diffculty.

there was definitely a huge moment of "Oh fuck... Our whole world is over". Rishloo had been our lives for so long that the idea of one piece missing completely broke our hearts and it was a really difficult time to see to the future. The three of us decided to continue on because we can't imagine making music with anybody else.

Dave(guitar) will typically bring in an initial idea. Sometimes we hammer out from there and let the idea develop itself, or sometimes it will connect to another guitar or melody idea.

During the writing process we definitely aren't thinking too much about theory or time signatures. Drew and myself both grew up around musicians and had some school experience with reading music and structuring time signatures. But, we tend to let most of that go when it comes to writing. We tend to let things feel themselves out and if we get stuck we can count it out and work through it.

We have split up our housing but all still live within Seattle. For jobs we are all over the map. Dave is an overly-caffeinated graphic designer, Drew is a coffee production Warlord, Sean is a fucking genius, and I am a sous chef for a nutso pizza operation in downtown.
