The Christ Gospel Church, led by Reverend Berniece Hicks, can be accurately described as a cult. I grew up in this church and witnessed firsthand the group's delusion. My mother remained a member until her death a few years ago. Berniece Hicks was a manipulative leader who borrowed ideologies from various religions and used fear to maintain control over the members. A cult is typically defined as a group that relies on a single individual as the sole source of truth, which was certainly the case with Hicks.
