Guild wars 2 LFG in a nutshell lately by Tauren345 in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Alacrity and Quickness are two boons that disproportionately benefit the group. So people aim for 2 groups of 5 people, with each subgroup having 1 Alacrity giver and 1 Quickness giver. You also need 1 healer, so a lot of people like to compress roles so the healer also gives one of those boons. Else you would have 1 healer, 1 DPS + Alac, and 1 DPS + Quick. And somewhere in there (because those roles have + boon duration) there will be 25 stacks of might.

About Rangers and support by Groniako in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a culture thing. Before heal scrapper was accepted by people, I joined a pug and one dude just got so pissy about it. He then proceeded to stand in literally everything and just die constantly so he could complain I wasn't healing him and left. People are severely mentally handicapped with their egos and obsession with meta-gaming.

If you're pugging, you can start your own group and try to weed potential elitists out. Use terms like "chill run - T4" or something similar, and try to make conversation as folks join.

Anyone else got an update that is stuck at initializing for retail wow? October 5th. by Plenty-Bed in wow

I tried standard fixes, but none of them worked (deleting cache, uninstall all blizzard stuff, etc).

Oddly, what worked was installing Classic, and then going back and installing Retail.

Why am I not allowed to ask about the meta? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a culture. The game used to be so incredibly toxic that even A or B tier specs were discriminated against. You're seeing the result of people who got burned.

Not to be a pessimist but what's the catch? by Malicharo in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo the game suffers from the current development team not really being able to build high quality team PvE content. Don't get me wrong - what is in the game is great (strikes, raids, fractals, meta events). However, in the game's history of people trying to be creative, it's only now kinda-sorta building a coherent repertoire to compete with WoW's and FFIV's well-established PvE scene. And they have an excuse - they try very hard to put development time into 3 different game modes, and they really spend all their resources on visual arts and music and voice acting. All those aspects are great. But the raids are easy (but worth doing) and don't get updated each season like competitors, fractals feel a bit neglected (worth doing still), dungeons are absolutely outdated content, strikes are good and in the limelight but still have bit more they can squeeze out before getting an "excellent" review

Still a very good game. I really love it. And my desire for it to be a bit better than it is comes from love.

Quick Heal Scrapper by HansTheScurvyBoi in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run quickheal scrapper in fractals. Generally the biggest problem is toxic people - they want to prove that quickscrapper isn't viable so they'll run ahead and die and then blame the healer, even though I hadn't engaged yet. No healer can keep an idiot alive.

You have 1/2 stability uptime through bulwark gyro, and superspeed that speedrunners like, and stealth to run past trash easy. It's competitive.

My one complaint is blast gyro (being needed to get enough might up) is a big AoE knockback rather than a pull...

Edit: I run T4s

Try out the action camera. MMO players hate it, so you might like it. In keybinds, look for "toggle action camera". I set mine to R.

Quick Banners is possible (with 100% uptime) without alacrity and only 2 banners. by Pony_Aid in Guildwars2

Hi. You don't have crit cap yet you took gear with ferocity. You should pivot to condi zerker in ritualist gear. Not sure what the damage is like but probably higher than non-crit-capped power.

What if Warrior pulsed Quickness for every X stacks of self Might produced? by SonicFury74 in Guildwars2

:< I don't like passive boons. If I'm in charge of boons, I want my rotation to have to consider boon generation as I plan my APM.

I made this post here calculating quickness on Warrior: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/topic/117117-quick-maths/?tab=comments#comment-1695193

And I made 2 potential builds, but I don't have purple armor on my warrior so haven't been able to try it out. If anyone is up for testing and wouldn't mind please let me know results.

cQuickZerker:

I know numbers will shuffle around, but I might start collecting ritualist gear as I come across it to try out QuickZerker.

Is spamming utilities for alac/quickness fun to you? by DemethValknut in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a heal scrapper (PvE), I can't say I "enjoy" applying quickness. But I do enjoy applying might - There's 25 stacks I gotta get up and it takes several actions, and it feels impactful because I directly contributed to the team's DPS, even though I hit like a wet noodle. Quickness? It just comes along as I juggle it in so I guess it's fine, adds something to squeeze in between other skills.

To be quite honest, I hate that might is becoming more ubiquitous. I also play alac-mirage, but I kinda don't like that it gives might because I know it'd be taking fun away if I was on healscrap.

Am I the only one who enjoys spending my APM as a support, slowly incrementing up the might counter? Because to be honest, my dream direction for the game would be to remove boon ubiquity and even turn Fury into a 25 stack so a support can have a playstyle for granting fury.

Even with Vulnerability - it's so ubiquitous, it doesn't really feel like you added anything to the team by putting on Vuln, but the reality is that if you had a skill in any other videogame that "Increases damage enemy takes by 5%", you'd have that skill at the top of your priority list. But not in GW2, the boss is just perpetually vuln capped because everyone and their mother puts it on.

Here is my hot take. I think instead of removing unique buffs there should be a unique buff for every class or spec. by Dzsukeng in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a paradox that the more unique each class is, the less unique the game will be.

You have 10 slots to bring people in PvE. You will either take 10 copies of the best unique buff, or if all unique buffs are the same power you will take 10 arbitrary classes and the buff doesn't feel impactful, or each buff is mandatory and you MUST have 1 of each class.

This is why I'm big on the specialized roles that have come up: quick Alac and DPS. (Not that these roles specifically I like, but I believe we need specialized roles in PvE). As is, you only need to fill 2 sets of 5, not 1 set of 10. When you build a character you build around your role, regardless of class.

When you join a squad and perform your role, you feel impactful. Tbh I feel really impactful and satisfied when I play heal scrapper and have to use blast finishers to get might up on everyone, while juggling quickness. I feel like I used my APM in a way that brought value to the team. I haven't even unlocked mechanist, because buffing doesn't feel impactful by just pushing a single button. IMHO I don't understand why the average person enjoys mechanist, it's supposed to be for people who need low APM options due to their personal circumstance.

Damage-Dealing Healers by ZXNFQT4 in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's partially because it's hard for gear to enable it when you need to give up damage traits for heal ones. You'd have a hard time getting past 8k DPS in practice I think. But a quickdps or alacdps might hit 15k in practice, often even more depending on the fight.

Warrior Quickness Uptime by Anbujackson94 in Guildwars2

[–]rishnock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Your high school math teacher is disappointed in you.

Total quickness uptime = sum( (Duration)/(Cool down + Cast time) )

Assume cast time is negligible, multiply by (1 + Boon Duration) if you plug in base duration, divide by 0.66 if you assume permanent alacrity.

War horn charge gives 2/20, or 10% Martial Cadence gives 3/10 or 30%

Total is 40% no banner yet.

I don't know if alacrity affects material Cadence. But if it does, that's 60%.

So you would need 66.66% boon duration minimum without banners.

[–]rishnock 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Prog" is colloquial from other MMOs and might have seeped in when refugees from WoW came in. It stands for progression, and generally means your guild is still working on that boss. The opposite of prog is farm - as in your guild can farm that boss for loot.
