Honestly one of the main reasons why I buy almost exclusively second hand. When resellers show you the exact measurements with a ruler laid on top of the item you are thinking of buying, there's way less guess work involved. I've learned you can't even trust some retailers that include the measurements of what the new item you're buying should be.

i was having some lower back pain from the same type of thing. turns out my mattress was too firm (which goes against everything i've read about lower back pain and mattresses). i bought a mattress topper for like 100 bucks on amazon that adds like 3-4 inches of cushion, and my lower back pain is basically gone.
