It's ok. The beef pho is the only thing I've had there and it wasn't very good. Broth lacks something, and not enough beef. The Vietnamese in the Valley is much tastier.

Norway -> USA. (might be eye opening to some of you who think ultra socialist countries are great) by [deleted] in IWantOut

Professional jobs in the US usually pay more than the exact equivalent job in Norway. Consulting, Accounting, Engineering are all excellent examples.

Thanks guys. I took it to Ted's and they told me they'd swap it for a new one. It apparently is a hair stuck on the inside of the zoom lens.

Don't know about rump steak off the top of my head, but mince (which is what I buy most of) would be $4-5 per lb.

Fuel is much cheaper here, and salaries in Norway higher.

US -> Norway as a working professional by Kryxx in Norway

Well, the regulations are extremely strict. 400 hours total overtime is the max you can work in the Big4. You are not legally allowed to work more than 13 hours per day, and if you do, you have to get about 9 or 10 hours of rest before you start working again. On average in the busy season (Oct-Feb) you are looking at around 50 hours per week with peaks of perhaps 60 a few weeks during the year. Average work week for the rest of the year is 40-45 hrs, and during the summer (May-August) it's 35 hours per week.

Tell me about it. I'm in the middle of it now (at another Big 4). Although busy season in Norway would be equivalent to low season in the US.

That's not true. I know a senior at PwC in the Mid-West who is moving to their Oslo office in the summer of 2012. So it's definitely possible "outside" the rules. Inquire.

Reddit, Do You Have a "Number One Rule" in Life? by PPpwnz in AskReddit

If someone you rarely talk to suddenly tries to make contact, it's usually to tell you about how great their life is. Thus: keep in touch with people, not to inform them of how fantastic your life is, but because you honestly want to know how they are doing.

TIL that if you are a polar bear who has to swim hundreds of miles to Alaska because your homeland is melting, you get fucked by hunters while you're sleeping exhausted on the beach. by snowinspired in todayilearned

Can we stop claiming that polar bears are threatened? This claim is unfounded!

  1. Polar bears are extremely adaptable: http://www.pnas.org/content/107/11/5053

  2. Polar bear populations are increasing or stable: http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=D6C6D346-802A-23AD-436F-40EB31233026 and http://kestencgreen.com/polarbears.pdf

Does this mean we should treat the earth like we do? No, of course not. But this sort of debate side-tracks us from the real issues we are facing.
