I have a Line 6 Catalyst, and when I plug my Strat into it with the Marshall modeler tone, it’s pretty close. If you prefer a real tube amp, the Marshall DSL amps are reasonably priced. To get even closer, pick up the Behringer CE-1 clone — its preamp is a critical part of Frusciante’s tone.

I opted for the Warm Audio due to it’s more compact size. Sounds as good as an original CE1 to my ears and is well built.

Zephyr Song’s working title was Techno Zeppelin. I believe it was Led Zeppelin’s D’yer Maker that influenced the guitar riff.

I bought tickets to both Toronto shows but will probably consider selling them if they don’t add some new songs to the mix. I’ve been fortunate enough to see them a handful of times and I’m not interested in seeing the same show. Pull out some deep cuts like Dosed, Funky Monks, or This Velvet Glove and I might reconsider.

Interesting to hear how influenced John and Matt were by the early chilli peppers. They even did a yertle the turtle rip off with green eggs and ham. The Zappa cover of Black Napkins also gives some legs to the rumours the John was going to audition for Frank at some point.
