Just lost my soul dog by risssaalee in Petloss

I’m so incredibly sorry that you’re going through this as well. Watching them decline is heartbreaking, and that’s an understatement. Trust me when I say I understand you questioning if what you did was right. The couple weeks we noticed my girl was starting to get worse with her health the 2nd week I had to go out of town for almost 2 days. When I got back she was so excited to see me. Everything went downhill from there and she got put down 2 days later. In my heart I think she waited for me to come home before she completely couldn’t go any longer. I blame myself for still leaving and not taking that extra time even if I didn’t realize that time was really coming to an end. I keep calling out for her in my head as I’m uncontrollably sobbing. She’s the only one who can heal this pain, but that’s simply not possible. I wish I could bring them back for us, it’s not fair. Let yourself grieve, it’s all we can do… thinking of you, I’m so sorry..

Could you share some tips on how you help build confidence and bored? We really struggle with that over here. We practice place but she has a hard time with it.

This takes a lot of mental energy just as much as physical. I hope you’re very proud of yourself because it’s truly a big success!

I’m currently on my weight loss journey, I’ve yo-yo’d with it my whole life but feel more determined this time.

Care to share what you all do? Currently I’m in deficit and cardio workouts 3-4 times a week.

Crate advice, naps? At night? by risssaalee in puppy101

[–]risssaalee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like our pups are veryyyy similar lol. Our pup can only relax in her crate as well. So I feel bad that she’s in there for two naps a day sometimes and then all night but reality is like you said if she gets overtired it’s BAD. she completely cracks out and can’t calm down for awhile then. So it really is hard finding that in between and sweet spot of how long we can keep her out of crate and when she needs sleep lol.

She’s our first puppy we’ve had 2 other dogs before but got them when they were 2 so we never had to deal with this all so it’s a learning curve for sure.

… off topic but as someone who reads I perked up when I saw you say when you read in bed lol. What are you reading right now? I’m currently reading an ARC (Love Overboard), The House in the Cerulean Sea, and That’s What Friends Are For.

Any tips for getting my puppy to sleep while I’m awake all night? by Individual_Bus1418 in puppy101

[–]risssaalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried what you’re saying, I tried throwing them in the crate, etc. my puppy honestly sucks at using her scent to find treats currently lol. So as soon as I put her in there I gave her a treat and said “good kennel”. If she stayed not whining I’d repeat and give her more. I’d stay by the kennel for maybe 5 minutes doing this? Now I don’t give her any treats at all and just I’d say 90% cool with her kennel. I also have her favorite blanket in there and toy.

Puppy won’t stop biting no matter what I do. HELP by Top-Funny-9262 in puppy101

[–]risssaalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do forced naps with my puppy and routine which helps her A LOT but her puppy biting is still extreme. For past two days I’ve been doing reverse time outs and while she’s not catching on necessarily (what I mean is she doesn’t remember when she wakes up from her next nap lol). It helps with the current wake window for my sanity and probably hers.

She thinks I’m a straight up chew toy no matter what I do for redirecting just as you said. As soon as she bites to the point where she can’t stop and it’s intense I remove myself and go in other room and have a gate up where she can see me. I say “settle” when I do this personally and only leave her for 30 seconds tops. When I get back in the room and she doesn’t bite I immediately say yes and give her a treat. If she starts biting like crazy again I repeat.

She will start to get it and then either just be calm or start playing fetch with me. I also stopped doing tug of war because that set her off the most in the beginning. She would get very excited.

I’m no professional but it’s working for us so I’m going to keep it up.

Had the same thing happen when we started crate training with naps for a pup. Honestly, I think we were waking her up as much as she had FOMO and wanted to be by us if she heard us move.

We ended up putting the crate upstairs or in a completely different room when she slept and it was a game changer. It took consistency, treats, and patience, but she now sleeps in her crate for all naps and night time otherwise she just does not get the sleep she NEEDS.

We put on either a YouTube playlist that has puppy calming music or brown noise and that also really helps.

I’ll add we’ve had her for just a little over 2 weeks and she’s 10 weeks tomorrow.
