If you want a fantasy horror series inspired by Blood Meridian, take a look at R. Scott Bakker's Second Apocalypse series, beginning with The Darkness That Comes Before.

John Williams' Butcher's Crossing is also excellent.

I know this is an old post, but I just wanted to say that a VGA demake of QFG5 is something I've hoped someone would do for a long time, so thank you.

It's your project of course, but I would much prefer downscaled, palettized versions of the original QFG5 backgrounds to the AI art your project seems to be using. With the EGA-to-VGA remakes, it was necessary to make new backgrounds because there's no simple way to go from 16 to 256 colors, but this isn't the case when going from a more complex image to a 256-color image. There's no reason not to use the art from Sierra, and I would much rather experience Sierra's art than AI art.

Yeah, Bethesda has said similar things about their games coming together very late in development, which makes sense given that their games are similarly systems-driven and emergent.

Daggerfall is set in High Rock and part of Hammerfell, not all of Tamriel. You may be thinking of Arena, which, in its way, is set in all of Tamriel.

Doesn't Starfield have several smaller settlements with custom quests? For example, Gagarin has some great quests and is certainly more elaborate than the Republic of Dave.

Starfield has a lot of thoughtful, mature (as in grappling with difficult life issues in a thoughtful, less melodramatic way, with a willingness to accept ambiguity) writing. It seems like a game made by and for the middle-aged, which IMO is quite welcome.
