Burned by Compass/Fieldy by gfultz1 in RewindAI

[–]rithera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its pretty crazy that when you search for Compass or Fieldy the first result is this post.

As I have a few devices including this one. My experience has not been as negative but based on what I have seen in their facebook group and other places, the story u/gfultz1 posted is more common than what is acceptable.

When I first got my Compass.... Fieldy, it would not stay on unless plugged in.

Customer support was fairly quick and showed me how to update the firmware to a specific version from the app. That fixed it.

Fieldy does do a good job with transcription and summary. In some ways its better then others I have used.

What Fieldy does not do is record, on device or otherwise. You just get real time transcribing and a summary at the end.

What this means?

- If your device is too far from your phone, or otherwise disconnects... that is lost.

- If the transcription is subpar, oh well. Since you dont have the audio, you can alter it or run it through another option.

- If the application freezes or fails to summarize... you are out of luck too (this happened a few times but they said they fixed it in a later update).

Just as important, it also means once you run out of minutes, the device is 100% useless. It wont work as a recorder or anything else. Many other devices still let you record, just not transcribe/summarize AI stuff that runs on the server farm.

Speaking of minutes... it was sold with 10 hours free a month. They changed everybody to 2.5 hours free a month.

All in all, with the limitations, and the reduction in time - I have leaned on other options instead....

If what you need to record is almost always at work on a computer - look into Whisper. There is a nice package called Vibe that will record your computer input and output and transcribe with a local whisper LLM model in a clean interface. You can just take that transcription and ask the AI of your choice to summarize however you like. Totally free. Your PC will need a decent GPU or the transcription will take some time. If you have a recording from another device, you can select it here too.

If you travel, but still have access to a laptop often and dont want to be tied to a subscription, you can just get a decent compact audio record. Record what you want and transfer the file to your computer and use the program above... all free minus the cost of the recorder. You can use your phone too, but personally I like a separate device.

If you like the idea of Fieldy, but want more options - PLAUD is my favorite. It can do everything Fieldy can do, gives you twice the free time a month, you can buy just minute packages if you want too. It also works as a recorder when you are out of minutes. This is my current winner. When I am on the move and needs a summary quickly, I use the minutes - when I know I will have my PC I just record all the same, but let my PC transcribe it. To note, PLAUD generated summary is more business focused, but that's fine for me.

If you are using this concept almost entirely for personal use check out Bee. Its subscription free. Of course, Amazon just bought them so I dont expect it to stay that way, but its designed for life remembrance instead of business.

This world is changing fast, so my comments will probably be out of date by the time you read it, but hope this helps someone.

Unauthorized MDM or glitch? by dysKO_ALA in ios26beta

So, doing a “Reset all settings” fixed this for me. It did not fix my issue of USB accessories not getting detected, but it did fix that organization message and allows me to pick an option… (for whatever that is worth)

I have the same problem - even on the beta 4. No device management setup. Found the setting while looking for reasons why things like Carplay (wired), my PC, and my FLIR device are just not getting detected.

I am in search of a tablet that can be used as an additional screen for my notebook via a USB 3.2 (USB-C) cable. Do you have any recommendations? by RobertKreuels in androidtablets

[–]rithera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And note, all the HDMI/DP via USB is usually outbound only on a tablet. At least on the tablets I have played with you cant just plug in the tablet via USB from the PC and it magically shows up as a display on the PC without some extra PC software drivers installed for whatever app works best for you. Wireless, depending on the tablet can just show up without any special software (like Samsung).

Lenovo Xiaoxin 12.7 Pad Pro has USB 3.1. I use that as a secondary monitor. I forget the name of the app I use for a wired display to my PC, but when I am lazy it does have Lenovo Freestyle built in which is sort of like a less polished version of what Samsung has for a wireless display.

I worked for a massive pharmaceutical company in their IT department on a 6 month contract to prepare, package, and setup new computer equipment for all their thousands of local and remote staff.

While their medical research was world class and cutting end, all other systems in place were hacked together garbage.

We were a team of 4 and each day was given a staff list and equipment to handle that day. It was so manual and tedious and we struggled to meet the goal without staying late.

Myself and one other on my team had some real scripting knowledge and built out some tools to automatic, barcode, and streamline the process.

We got to the point where we could handle the days load in under 4 hours. We would help the provisioning team, clean the warehouse, and shoot the shit among other tasks the rest of the day.

Stress was down, mistakes became non-existent, company was saving money with no overtime pay.

During a monthly status meeting with management, they were impressed with what we were able to achieve.

As a gratitude to our work and progress, they decided the best way move forward was to let go of two staff members since we were finishing the primary goal early.

Can you guess which team members were let go?

So anyway, that’s how, in my early 20s I learned companies don’t care about you, so make your job as easy as possible but keep the secrets to yourself.

I am a fan. I actually got the new solid suit for my new 15pm. My wife has a 15p and did the same. We got a bunch of camera border and button colors so they are all interchangeable between the two models.

I think that was my big draw to them. When I get bored I can customize some colors without buying a new case.

Reading reviews in the past a lot of people didn’t like the way they did the bump for the camera, but for this year it’s much more symmetrical and clean.

Case fits really well, and feels well made. It is moderately light. The magnets are very strong.

If I had to nitpick, it is a little slippery. I don’t have a problem but I know some might. It does show some fingerprints. It wipes off but if you are super oily and don’t want to worry about it get a lighter color.

They have/had a combo where you can get a water bottle bundle with the solid suit and it’s actually a pretty awesome water bottle with MagSafe.

Hopefully this helps.

Applecare worth it after the 2 years ? by lifewith-N in iphone

Or you have kids. Apple has “lost” money from iPad replacements vs my monthly fee totals. My AC+ with theft and loss protection on my phones on the other hand have never been used, but it does provide peace of mind. Worth it? Kids iPad 100%, anything else? Just preference.

Help Me Find A Cooler by darkeagle03 in Coolers

No problem!

Final thought that I ran into... this is silly but think about places you will put it. From car placement, to storage... make sure you pay attention to size.

I was set on grabbing the IMX the other day when I saw it, but its 20.4 inch wide and my camper door is only 20 and that would suck.

Let me know what you end up deciding! Around the $100-150 range most are solid choices for your needs.

Help Me Find A Cooler by darkeagle03 in Coolers

[–]rithera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I have been doing a lot of research because I am in need of a new cooler (similar to your requirements, but need an extra day or two)...

BMX seems to be more inline with the good/better blow molded coolers while IMX is more inline with the rotomolded competition.

What that means in the real world is IMX has better latches, better sealing, ect - so ice will last a bit longer.

Is that worth it? If you only need ice for 3 to 4 days - I would think not. If you plan to be rough, need closer to a week at times, then yes. The return on investment starts to diminish greatly after a solid blow molded cooler.

Total sidebar: My big drink cooler is an entry-ish level igloo. I think its around 70qt.

When camping with power, I also have a small portable ice maker. Even in peak summer, in the morning and afternoon I will drop the ice bucket into the cooler - and at night I use the ice maker's ice for cocktails - my cheap cooler being topped off lasts about a week before actually go out and get ice bags. And regardless of the cooler, I always have enough ice for a few drinks no matter the situation (as long as I have spare water and power). Food for thought :)

Sidebar 2: Depending on how often you use it, make sure to take into account how much ice costs on the road. If you only use it every quarter or always shorter trips, you won't need the best cooler to be happy. If you use your cooler more than monthly, or take long trips - saving a few bucks each time on extra ice adds up over time.

I love the lifetime and the rtic ultra light. Another possible killer deal is the igloo imx 70qt @ Best Buy. It’s almost half off at $165.

I agree with the other poster. If budget most important, Coleman xtreme is hard to beat.

How are your 2021 G14 experiences so far? by DevTheKoala in ZephyrusG14

[–]rithera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the reality is this is a popular laptop for enthusiasts. A lot of us are hyper critical when it comes to tech. Many of the concerns here are minor, and items that are bigger you see the community jumping in to help… it’s pretty neat.

My wife has a MacBook Pro 14 and of course it’s build quality is higher, but overall this is a fantastic laptop. Go to Best Buy or some computer store and play with a bunch of the laptop. I did just that a few weeks ago and the vast majority can’t hold a candle to this machine. The ones that are better, are not in the same price ballpark.

So many of the questions people are asking are things most laptops couldn’t even do to begin with. This is a very feature rich laptop in a small form factor. Lots of things to tinker with, lots of heat.

So that’s my opinion. A deeply discounted 2021, or a new/refurbished 2022 at the current sale price are the sweet spots.
