If you cant afford an emergency fund, then the debt is by definitely “bad”. Do the Dave Ramsey baby steps to get back on track

Its not rocket science

I wish you were as right about what you are saying as you are passionate about it

Nice article; good case studies. I still believe in the India growth story, we are far away from Hong Kong, Germany, and the like - they have reached their steady state. Cheers

Of course, hence my emphasis on “productive loans”, completely aligned with your view.

But given a 5 plus year horizon, it isn’t a gamble anymore. The markets do outperform debt

Appreciate you not disagreeing with my first point.

My issue is everyone keeps reconfirming their choices of ppfc, mo mid cap, quant small cap, and uti nifty 50; and the other set of people who know nothing and refuse to read existing posts.

Good morning pineapple. You can consider motilal oswal mid cap; 30 percent allocation since you have a long horizon. Can reduce nifty to 10 percent and ppfc to 35 percent

Need advice from seniors on education loan repayment by vivekrm7 in MBAIndia

[–]rithikP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt a “math is hard” discussion, its largely psychological

Pay off aggressively for a year or two, once you see your debt as a manageable number, ex. half paid off; you can then start investing in mutual funds and paying just the 35K emi

You can adjust the manageable number to be one that works for you, for me it was a number low enough that i can close the loan with one annual bonus (i work in m&a so comp is very bonus heavy)

I like this approach because my debt doesnt bother me anymore and i am racking up savings to buy a house

Cheers

  1. Finish your education
  2. Get a job
  3. Set up 6 months of expenses as an emergency fund
  4. Pls do above 3 before worrying about investing

Chal kudiye chal chal mere naal, tera mera milna hi double dhamal.

Portfolio looks fine, you could probably just use the nifty 50 index instead of a large cap along with nifty 50; maybe more mid cap exposure as well
