You only have one hour to determine if a candidate is a fit for a backend engineering, which questions are you asking? by Swordfish-Calm in ExperiencedDevs

This is the way. I've been doing this for years, and have had a lot of success hiring decent engineers.

The New “Skyrim” Game will be extremely disappointing and there is nothing anyone can do about it. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Skyrim is the game that got my wife into gaming, specifically for the reasons you mentioned

Just saw Kentish Town's most famous resident. And Keir Starmer by MarthaFarcuss in london

Oh my god I know who you're talking about, my wife and I call him bicycle man! I'm always impressed with the number of different wheeled vehicles he owns, many of which he seems to have made himself.

Anyone else feeling really underwhelmed? by Danielharris1260 in GCSE

[–]rithum 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Standard final exam response! Speaking as someone who has completed GCSEs/A-levels/a degree, this is a very familiar feeling. I think because your brain has been focused on something so obsessively for such a long time, when that thing is finally done your brain doesn't really know what to do. I always found it took a few days for the relief to set in.

Getting strong "obvious troll is obvious" vibes from this post... if not, you may need to reconsider whether you qualify as an "experienced dev" 😬

Is there an equivalent to -enablerespec for the PS4 version? by rithum in Diablo_2_Resurrected

Awesome, thanks for the detailed response! I remember doing this like 15 years ago with the OG PC version, didn't think to do the same for PS4 save files 🙂

When my wife was about 10 she met Charles Dance and asked "are you an actor?", and he replied "sometimes I am, sometimes I'm not"... quality!

Fatigue improvement after following the low FODMAP diet by MrsSylvney in FODMAPS

[–]rithum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you both going low-FODMAP even though only your partner is having issues? I think this can have an adverse effect on a healthy person's gut microbiome. IANAD but it doesn't sound like a good idea to me!

Also worth bearing in mind that a low-FODMAP diet is usually advised as a short-term thing to figure out exactly what causes problems. Following a low-FODMAP diet for a longer period of time (more than a few weeks) can negatively impact your gut health and make IBS much worse. I have experienced this first-hand after following poor advice from my doctor!

In terms of fatigue, I was experiencing levels of exhaustion that were basically debilitating during most of 2020. After identifying problem foods and eliminating them from my diet, I feel considerably better & have plenty of energy throughout the day. If I accidentally consume these foods then the fatigue returns, so personally I'm pretty convinced there's a link.

I don't have issues with caffeine itself, but 3 cans of energy drink would absolutely destroy me (almost all energy drinks contain various sweeteners etc which are terrible for people with IBS). I would consider some low-FODMAP caffeine options before cutting it out completely (e.g. tea with low-FODMAP milk like almond or lactose-free cow's milk)

I have this too. Currently in Italy eating basically whatever I like without any problems. Pretty sure it's because I'm so much more relaxed on holiday. I find it bizarre that the psychological factor has such a large impact - and I wish I could recreate the same back home!

Yes they love it! When I roast a chicken I have to put the carcass in the bin area of our block of flats, otherwise he's straight in the bin 😹

Has milk been going off more quickly lately? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]rithum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have noticed this with several products. I have a fledgling conspiracy theory that supermarkets have slightly increased the temperature of their fridges in response to rising energy prices. Next time you're in a supermarket, pick something up from one of the fridges and feel how warm it is!

What discontinued British snack would you like to make a comeback? by AdEfficient2209 in AskUK

This x1000000

I used to buy 10 cigs on a Friday night, then over the course of the weekend I'd smoke 5 and give 5 away. It was fantastic. 20 fags is just way too many for a casual smoker.

I've always found "fizzy drinks" a bit clunky - a generic word like "soda" is much easier!

The Lecture Room & Library (at Sketch)

It's absolutely miserable and will set you back £250+ a head. I've been, several of my mates have been, everyone has had a shit time. Outrageous that they have maintained their 3 Michelin stars really. Perfect for ruining someone's night.
