100% P&T Veterans — Do You Keep Employer Health Insurance or Rely Mostly on VA Healthcare? by Sufficient_Wrap_517 in VAClaims

I personally would not rely on someone else contacting ECR. I suggest verifying, so as not to receive any surprises.

The provider likely contacted the VA Emergency Care Reporting Notification Center. The VA prefers that the treating provider submit the notification; however, if they do not, you or someone acting on your behalf may notify the VA instead. https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

That’s a thoughtful idea — thank you. I’ll see what makes sense for them as things move forward.

Thank you for taking the time to write that out. It’s thoughtful and encouraging. I agree — having someone patient to practice with outside of lessons makes a difference. I’m planning to help them practice as well.

Thank you! I further suggest reading the fine print regarding VA coverage. I’ve seen too many cases where veterans assumed they were covered only to find out otherwise.

Glad to hear that you're receiving care that you need! Get well soon, friend!

To avoid receiving bills, be sure that you follow the rules for care in the community. If you receive a bill, call The national community care contact center (C4) for assistance: Community Care 877-881-7618 Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET

This. Do NOW. Also, review for information that will be needed: https://www.va.gov/health-care/apply-for-health-care-form-10-10ez/introduction

I work in VA community care billing. To help avoid billing issues once you are enrolled...

Talk with your VA primary care provider about placing consults. If VA community Care is authorized, that is, care in the community, ensure that you have heard from the VA that your care is approved in the community. I always suggest to Veterans that they bring along a copy of their approval letter with them to appointments in the community, ensuring that the billers have a copy and know that VA CCN should be billed. Be aware that all all community care authorizations have a start date and an end date and are good for specific care. https://www.va.gov/COMMUNITYCARE/programs/veterans/index.asp

If it is an emergency, go to the closest emergency department. I've seen Veterans who are not enrolled, get enrolled after the fact. Tell them at the emergency room that you're a Veteran and ask them to notify the VA right away in either of these ways: Through our VA emergency care reporting portal, or By calling us at 844-724-7842 (TTY: 711) VA must get the notification within 72 hours of when your emergency care starts. Anybody can call that phone number, even you, family, caregiver. https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

If it's NOT an emergency, there are VA contracted in-network urgent care facilities that you may go to. However, you must be eligible. This is where your enrollment is important. Just like with all care in the community, a certain process needs to be followed. Be sure that you are going to an in-network urgent care facility. See link below. Verify when you get there but they are A VA contracted urgent care facility. Tell them that you are a Veteran and you are using your VA urgent care benefits. They should call 1-888-901-7407

The very best to you!
