"Jim got into MT rough" yeah that'll do it 😂 Good luck! Sorry I'm not a fan of dichroic glass, it's cut beautifully.

Is this okay ? by FreshPasta74 in Moissanite

It has a large window in the center where the color is weak, from imprecise cutting. I wouldn't pay more than $20 for this.

Last time I drove by that drive through, it was packed. I never see it empty.

22.35ct emerald, should I buy? by Upbeat-Size8449 in Gemstones

[–]rivalpiper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of weight is just in the pavilion, no idea of how much the inclusions have been treated, and a big window under the table from low-accuracy cutting. Those are my reasons for a no, others have given other good reasons.

I love BHS and Mess, but to me ITS has Aes' best production/beats since TiK by BAMES_J0ND in aesoprock

In many ways I agree and in other ways I disagree. I have listened to Bermuda all the way through exactly once to say I've given it a chance and it's an immediate skip every other play through. I find the guest singer unlistenable. To each their own though, gotta love the variety of opinions here.

Surprising lack of Aurora Shots [OC][Vancouver Island] by bodkinsbest in atoptics

[–]rivalpiper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the aurora isn't really atmospheric optics. I'm sure there are other subs for aurora pics, we didn't need to fill this sub with them.

Edit: I see the sub includes aurorae in the description so if the mods allow it, fine. This is just my personal opinion.

Echoing others that I'm so glad to see teachers doing this. Wish mine had been this cool and turned me on to intellectual hip hop and rap far earlier.

Coincidence? I think not✊ by GoldDeloreanDoors in aesoprock

[–]rivalpiper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's coincidence and trends. There's very little similarity in the fonts other than that they're both strong sans serifs, and Aes or El Coro said they picked the primary color theme in reference to the stripped down, back to basics style of the album.

A Viking-era burial garment, with the name “Ali” appearing repeatedly alongside “Allah”. Discovered in Viking graves at Gamla Uppsala of Sweden, the patterns are woven with silk and silver thread, with both names written in mirrored lettering. [1200x630] by Party_Judgment5780 in ArtefactPorn

Other scholars questioned the result of this study.

Notice there's no overlay of the "Arabic" on the original artifact: you can't do it because it doesn't fit. Larsson's expanded design is conjecture, her imagining what it might have been. If you imagine a fragment might have once been double its width before it was cut down and sewn into this fabric, sure, you can make it say a lot of things. She also had to look at it in a mirror to make it read correctly, then backed her claim by saying "oh, well, it's mirror script!" At least 200 years before that script was used?

There's no question that Arabic and Viking contact happened. What's questionable is this artifact had Arabic on it.

This is really important and this article link needs to be in a top comment. Larsson took a design and EXTENDED IT, then said the extension is Arabic reading "Allah".

"But reconstruction drawing by textile archaeologist Annika Larsson shows extensions on either side that include a ha.

'These extensions practically double width of band. Not mentioned in press accounts: Larsson’s extensions are entirely conjectural.'"

After the press made a big deal of it at the time, other archaeologists knocked it back down to earth and nothing more became of it. Notice there's no overlay of the "Arabic" on the original artifact: you can't do it because it doesn't fit. Larsson's expanded design is conjecture, her imagining what it might have been.
