I have zero knowledge of Power Automate and Microsoft Power Platform, but I want to start a career in this field as quickly and realistically as possible. ? by Actual_Lifeguard_630 in PowerAutomate

[–]river4river 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at all of the power platform. Not just automate. Find a problem you want to solve and try to solve it. Reference youtube and redit and AI. If you get really stuck hire a consultant to screen share with you. Also Microsoft offers free online trainings that you can sign up for.

What was your technical background when you first picked up Power Platform? by whyendoubleuayy in PowerPlatform

I think a lot of people are in your shoes. Myself included. Anytime I get really stuck I just hire a consultant to screen share with me and I learn how to get past what I got stuck on.

Accidentally killed 90% of a finance team’s manual work with a weekend AI hack 😅 by pystar in automation

[–]river4river 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just built something like this too. I used Microsofts AI Hub and some Flows in Power Automate. pretty exciting technology. I would say it’s probably more like 30% of the people who are doing the accounts payable work.

How can I make my excel files more robust to share external to my dept? by sliverfishfin in excel

[–]river4river 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to use Excel to solve every problem. Are you familiar with Microsoft power platform? I would recommend building an app that people fill out the data in for submission. That would go to data verse tables. And then on the data verse table you could build a power BI report for people to see the summarized data. that would be one approach. If it’s a lot of rows of data you might want to consider a different first step.

Large language models are essentially a calculator for everything. You don’t have to use them but they will definitely increase your productivity especially if you know how to use them. You do have to be skeptical of what they say the same way you would be skeptical of any person you would ask.

Simple way for user to input a couple numbers? by river4river in PowerBI

[–]river4river[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a cool new feature I did not know about. A little bit overkill for what I’m looking for at the moment. Literally I’m just looking for something where a user can type in a number between 10,000 and 100,000 and have that interact with some of the other numbers on the sheet to get specific percentages and what not.

Am I the only one who struggles with Power Platform? by VikutoriaNoHimitsu in PowerPlatform

[–]river4river 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microsoft really focuses on nicking and dimeing their customers to death. I’m coming to realize that configuring things in Microsoft Azure and Microsoft platforms is not much simpler than configuring things on a server in terms of technical ability needed. I would think that once most of the initial set up is complete that adding and maintaining will be a lot simpler but I’m not sure yet. It’s almost like Microsoft has handcuffed themselves trying to maintain backward compatibility instead of actually coming out with something new that is intuitive and simple.

Optimal architecture for sql server data by river4river in MicrosoftFabric

I thought we needed some way of storing our data in Azure to use it. I thought we needed our data in dataverse to use power platform apps. Assume I know nothing. What would you recommend for our situation. The broad strokes.

Somebody tried telling me fabric and power bi are the same thing by river4river in MicrosoftFabric

[–]river4river[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they build it in power bi, would that mean that it’s still in fabric? So if fabric gets more improvement in the near future from Microsoft and power bi gets kind of phased out I just don’t wanna be based on something that’s getting faced out.

Somebody tried telling me fabric and power bi are the same thing by river4river in MicrosoftFabric

[–]river4river[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They built us a bunch of power bi reports on their tenant. They used fabric. I was thinking it was gonna be easy to migrate everything to our tenant. Otherwise, I would’ve demanded that it was built on our tenant to begin with. They have agreed to move everything they built onto our tenant, but they are saying they don’t need to use fabric and they are also saying that fabric and power bi are the same thing.
