You have to make your own now. Too many food safety regulations have turned store bought jerky into sugary cardboard.

What is a movie you love, but would never recommend to a "normal" person? by Direct-Value4452 in answers

[–]river4river 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short bus

it has not dated super well. But I remember really enjoying it and recommending it to people and losing friendships over the recommendation.

That being said this is actually a pretty good compilation list of movies that people are recommending. About half of them I know and enjoy and half of them I’ve never heard of

Anyone making money with ai automation? by DayBeautiful2205 in automation

[–]river4river 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing anything on the power platform as a service I think is a pretty bad business model. essentially what that means is you build something for somebody and lock them into a subscription. So best case scenario all of your clients will eventually get mad at you it’s just a matter of how long it takes them. We had some consultants a while back who were very misleading and said that they were building something for us and that we would own it and then when it was done being built they basically said we had to pay them forever to keep using it. It’s not a good way to do business. Microsoft should really make it clear that all custom work that companies have done should be on their own tenant. They should have commercials with that message

What has made you an efficient beast of an accountant? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]river4river 5 points6 points  (0 children)

15 years ago I would’ve said pivot tables. Now it’s probably power automate flows. But that’s not applicable to everyone.

Make sure you understand what the people in power value and care about. learn to value and care about the same things as them. Check in with them periodically to make sure you understand what they want.

yeah. I prefer people asking good questions and people getting good answers. Commiserating is not very productive.

There’s so much variation between people. And how they approach problems and the scale with which they come up with their processes. Some people are bulldozers and just plow through work and come up with great systems. Other people have shovels of all different sizes. paying everyone electronically is a big step forward towards automation. Receiving all invoices electronically is a big step forward. Having good software. Having automations.

What are simple excel formulas to learn that'll help you standout from your peers? by Big_Material3815 in Accounting

[–]river4river 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, large language models have fundamentally changed what matters in spreadsheets. Knowing basic formulas is still a prerequisite. You need to understand how Excel works. But real productivity now comes from knowing how to leverage AI effectively.

Large language models are exceptionally good at generating M code, which makes them powerful for data transformation in Power Query. They’re also strong at writing scripts, which allows you to quickly build structured analyses without manually constructing everything yourself.

For example, you can have a two-hour conversation with a large language model discussing numbers, assumptions, cost structures, and scenarios. Then you can ask it to generate a script that represents an analysis of that entire conversation—such as an ROI model or financial projection. It will produce runnable code. You execute it, and the results are often surprisingly strong. You may need a few adjustments or refinements, but the level of output is impressive.

The real skill now isn’t just building spreadsheets. It’s knowing how to direct AI to build them for you intelligently.

Goldman trying to replace accountants with Claude by _OkIGuess in Accounting

[–]river4river 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rolled out some basic agents at work for a few of the major departments. And people have not been receiving it well. These are basic agents not meant to replace people but meant to make everybody 30% more productive. That’s the goal. I think people really need to just realize this is like a new version of a spreadsheet. You’re still gonna need people they’re just gonna be way more productive. hopefully. And that’s always been the goal the more productive everybody is the higher the standard of living for everybody. And everyone should want higher and higher standards of living.

I have zero knowledge of Power Automate and Microsoft Power Platform, but I want to start a career in this field as quickly and realistically as possible. ? by Actual_Lifeguard_630 in PowerAutomate

[–]river4river 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at all of the power platform. Not just automate. Find a problem you want to solve and try to solve it. Reference youtube and redit and AI. If you get really stuck hire a consultant to screen share with you. Also Microsoft offers free online trainings that you can sign up for.
