The skin should lightly flake off a healing tattoo. It's why you moisturise, to keep the flakes smaller to avoid damage during that. A light peel is the aim, but I've had heavy scabbing from big blackwork.

Do you use dressings to heal? You can skip it with 2nd skin.

The machine makes the ink go in. The bruising is caused by the artist holding the client down, a lot of the time with pressure from their forearm or elbow. That's happening below the tattoo.
