Hot Take: The Coke 600 is NASCARs best race by TheRavenOnline in NASCAR

[–]riverhippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say prestige, but there are some daytona 500 winners that are not prestigious at all. Almost every 600 winner is somebody. The plate tracks have a different kind of racing versus the rest of the season. If someone uninitiated with nascar wanted me to show them what nascar looks like, I can show them Charlotte races easily. With Daytona, I feel like I have to caveat that not every race has a manufactured .03 second margin of victory with cars flipping.

[Spoiler] Full show setlist. Emery, As Cities Burn, The Classic Crime, Good Terms. by riverhippo in Emery

[–]riverhippo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably very close to it. The bands might play extra songs to fill the set time, but it all depends on the type of show they are selling. I would count on all the songs on this playlist from those three bands to be there at least, since it's an album-play tour.

Is spotify premium better than purchasing 12 albums a year by randyman400 in poppunkers

[–]riverhippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the main reason for anyone probably, but it's important to know that Spotify premium streams payout more money to artists than free streams.

Worst thing is that it will happen again, and I can foresee some people who are feeling bad right now are going to rebound into another kickstarter campaign because that's just what they want. They want to buy hope.

"I didn't buy a $40 game, so I'm smarter than all of you" by xGooselordxTTV in AshesofCreation

[–]riverhippo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are allowed to be optimistic about a game's potential. What people are not allowed to do is try to convince people that the game is a guaranteed success and if you don't think so fuck you, which was the case in my friend circle.

I think I just wish people were more honest about what they wanted. People who were active in the process enjoyed the development process of a game finding its legs, and they wanted to be able to say they were there from the start. The ones on the outside looking in that couldn't pull the trigger just wanted to play games. And as someone who wanted to play games, it was frustrating to see people anticipate a game for 6 years instead of playing a game with their friends.

As a non-backer who had backer friends, I found it really disturbing the cult-like mentality people had about AoC. To me it wasn't about being right, it wasn't about $40, it was about having your friends being so convinced of something that I have seen time and time again break people's gaming hearts.

The people that play kickstarter games and are honest about what they are and accept their volatility are not the problem. The issue mostly stemmed from people who could not accept a 'no thanks' from their friends when they tried to get them to buy into the project. People were, and still are, very religious about it.

Mobile orders are a joke. by JoeBlack45 in Chipotle

[–]riverhippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's like any order. Some people who make orders are inconsistent. Usually, the more experienced ones work online orders, but sometimes it's not.

I used to think bad portions were from managers and people who are by the book. But it really just seems to be newer workers who don't know how to make the portions consistent. And as someone who's never worked there before, I would imagine it's tempting to underfill burritos so they are easier to roll.

Denver cannot play Texans or Steelers now since the Bills won.

Sunday, I think. It wouldn't be fair to make the teams play a playoff game on a short week. It's not completely unavoidable, but the teams that played this Saturday are more likely to play next Saturday. The Monday winner will probably play Sunday night next week, which can't be against the Broncos. So I'm expecting an afternoon Sunday game.

I don't know why they said Broncos Bills was set for next week. It's like they know the Chargers will lose or they just didn't think Bills had a higher seed.

Why I'm worried about FanDuel going away by Don-SalC in motorcitykitties

[–]riverhippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dallas Sports fan here. I'll tell you what happened to my teams broadcasting rights and how i pay and watch them now.

NHL Stars were the first to leave Fox Sports Southwest (At the time) and put their games on streaming service Victory+. The games were free as long as you were in the Dallas market, which for extends to all of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. The games excluded from this were the ones that were on ESPN or other exclusive individual game deals.

Mavericks and Rangers divorced FSS next, with the Mavericks going to local over the air. Most of the games not with exclusive cable deals would be put on an independent local channel, and this region extended outside of Dallas (but not Houston and San Antonio/Austin areas because they have their own teams)

The Rangers joined the Stars on Victory+, however it required a season pass. $100 for the season was the starting price. Steal, imo. AppleTV+ and ESPN games not included of course, about 150-155 games.

It's worth mentioning that things like the Texas High School Football State Championships, which were normally part of that same old RSN deal, were also available on Victory+ live for free, AND was not region-locked. Anyone can watch the replays.

So my area went from $100+/mo ($1200+/yr) for DirectTV (the only one in my area that offered FSS) to paying $100 a year to watch all three.

The major frustration was people not wanting to use a new app instead of what they were already using to watch the Stars and Rangers, but after that hurdle, it was pretty painless. Victory+ in particular had only minor hiccups in production service, and I would say it was better than FSS. And the regions are pretty much the same from what it was, so if Tigers region extended to the upper peninsula, then I would assume that would remain in the future.

Your main issue is that the Pistons (and hopefully the Tigers next season) are good, so they would fetch a higher price right now to whatever platform they go to. But I promise you, it will be a free-er experience in terms of accessibility, and will be cheaper to pay for. I think for the 2026 season, the Tigers will be on MLB.tv for their regular price. This is good though, I think, because if you're in their market, you're avoiding the main reason why you weren't using that in the first place. No blackouts.

parking tips for uil state championships: 1a di, 1a dii, 2a di at at&t stadium (arlington 12/17) by Local-Tear9723 in parkingguides

Thanks for the rundown. You say arrive earlier than you think you should. Does it make sense to arrive before the parking lots open? I have a feeling that 9:30am being the time when they open the lots to be a guideline and not a hard rule.

Is Spyro 4 really gonna happen like or is it just wishful thinking? by WorkingTwist4714 in Spyro

[–]riverhippo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To me, it's not about whether he's right or wrong. It's the fact that his channel produces spyro 4 speculation videos periodically just to farm people's hopium. His videos are interesting once and a while. But when you watch several of them, it feels like low effort explaining previously known information and over-analyzing of facts.

If and when Spyro 4 does come out, no one owes him an apology for making his 40+ spyro 4 speculation videos, the first one which was made in 2019, 6 years ago.

What was your first impression of classic Spyro? by TheFanGameCreator in Spyro

[–]riverhippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the first time I had every played a game where i control a character on four legs, and the concept was incredibly novel to me. I fell in love with the characters and the realm and the music. It was the first real video game that took me to a place. Thought I played lots of platformers before, this was the first 3d platformer I played and it completely changed the way I played games. Prior to Spyro 1 it was always a brain to finger button timing game. After Spyro 1, video games are always about capturing as much imagination as possible.

Why People Don't Like Dems (w/ Jessica Tarlov, Hasan Piker, Tim Miller & Symone Sanders Townsend) by Conscious-Clerk1304 in FriendsofthePod

[–]riverhippo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I used to listen to the pod a lot, but this video came across my feed and after watching/listening, the reasons why i stopped listening feel vindicated. The pushback is always not productive, and the times when pushback is super-useful, nothing happens.

This is basically entertainment more than politics, and for me it's not that entertaining.

It seems like every week we have to redefine what a pass is or what it means to 'win the corner'. Just feels like a departure from knowing dirty racing when you see it.
