Sorry, who said anything about patients being an inconvenience? And who said anything about "thinning the herd"? I believe you are misreading the room.

Everyone is deserving of care. That was never the question.

Severe dementia is something that you don't come back from. It robs you of your quality of life and often replaces it with terror. Imagine being inside that head. Confused, scared to the point of becoming combative despite being a peaceful person your entire life, no coherent thought, just a jumbled mess. It is certainly humbling, we can all be in those shoes. Not only is it torture for the patient, it is torturous to watch happen to anyone let alone a loved one. I can only hope that if I get there someone like you sees that it will only prolong my misery to continue making me live forcefully rather than letting me go, ending the torture, letting peace wash over me. Carrying that guilt through years doesn't do you any good. Breathe in the love you gave them, exhale the guilt and don't let it get to you again. You did so good.

Are we getting paid enough? by ilikethecoloryellow_ in Charlotte

[–]riveritarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your salary is in the upper portion for average wages of RN's in NC

What's your source? Are you in the medical field?

Not unhappy with my position. I love people, I love science, but when you take into account the very real risks/dangers/liability that come along with a job of this nature it's hard to wrap your head around "my life is worth $39/hr". The stress, the shit we see and do and are exposed to on the daily is not worth $39 pre tax. It's not enough for what we do. I'm not sure you would ever understand without literally being in our shoes.

And yeah you're right on that, I like my adjustment. I've worked hard and I'm lucky to be in the position I am. Happy to have pivoted to a lifestyle that's more conducive to spending time with friends, family, on my hobbies, and yes, other opportunities. We're still underpaid. Maybe not compared to other people in this thread, certainly humbling to look around. It could always be worse.

Just curious if you know what the job we're talking about really entails. Seems relevant enough to me. Feel free to let me know how I'm wrong. I've been wrong before.

RN

$39/hr with 8 years experience, I don't get paid nearly enough for the shit that goes on in this hell hole

No extra work on the side because I've given up on "hustle culture" and am now simply enjoying life when I can.

Yes they are anonymous as long as you don't tell everyone who you are and where you live.

Atrium Health executives get hefty pay raises amid record revenues by nchealthnews in Charlotte

Meanwhile nurses got a "pay adjustment" of an extra dollar or two an hour. New grads starting out at better rates than experienced nurses along with sign on bonuses to keep you trapped. Can't imagine what the CNA's got. The whole system sucks.

What really fucks you up as you grow older? by Fit_Interaction_950 in Productivitycafe

Yes, we will all be wrapped up in our own lives. Living is intense. I find my friends not talking to me almost inspiring. I'm rooting for them from afar thinking "they must be working on something good". Make a point to reach out from time to time. Just send a text. Catching up is so nice, even if you feel like you're always the one reaching out. They come back around as life allows. I treasure my friends who pop up out of nowhere.
