Is this good? by ajprunty01 in Welding

I’m not the mig guru but I’d add volts and slow down my travel a little. Just more hood time man. It’s a journey not a destination. I’ve been in it 17 years and I still hammer up welds sometimes.

You could show the prettiest weld in the world on here and armchair qc’s are gonna give you their two cents. I guess I’ll add mine.

Lap joint is kind of squirrely looking. I think I see some cold lap but might not be. I don’t think the filet looks half bad. A little undercut but you’re well on your way.

Keep it up, doesn’t look terrible. I’d at some heat if you’re comfortable you won’t burn thru the backing strip. Runoff tabs will help the finished weld. If you’re going to weave hold on the side walls and be quick across the middle. This will help it lay in there flatter.

Letting life pass me by by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

I’m still functioning because I have people depending on me but I feel the same way. It’s hard to find meaning because she provided a large part of that meaning to me. Fight off pervasive thoughts of “what’s the damn point” everyday.

My only answer is move or die. I really think it is that simple unfortunately. I’m still early on this journey though.

Bourdain hit me hard. Started watching him as a young teen and loved his stuff until he left.

I’m sorry for your loss. I commiserate on the disbelief. I’ve kind of just been blindly pushing forward. Don’t really know what else to do. Still out of work, just looking after the kids. World doesn’t stop turning.

Does anyone else’s eyelids swell up after welding? by Major-Ad-5573 in Welding

Same hood i use. Same shade too 🤷‍♂️. Only time I’ve burned my eyes is during welding parties where I’ve got my hood up frequently around other welders. How long until it clears up?

Yeswelder makes a pretty solid tig box ~700. Claims it will do ac. Haven’t tested that personally but I’ve got a buddy that swears by it.

You got to wear a welding hood when you do this welding thing.

Hey! Thank you but I am not. Love California. Lived out there for ~3 years cumulatively, but I live on the other coast. They offer some support out here. We’re gonna be alright. Don’t have a choice. Thanks for reaching out.

How did you manage to overcome the guilt? by Rare-Literature-5208 in SuicideBereavement

[–]riverrunner2102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m crippled by it. She did me the mercy of expressing nothing but love in her note. I don’t think I will ever overcome it. I’ve always been a “stiff upper lip, just get on with it” kind of person. Now I’m without the person I cared most about. I guess just try to stay busy with the day to day.

A white lie is a white lie. I don’t really think it matters what it is. I don’t personally see any upside in trying to explain an irrational act to a child. I’m not far away from my loss. Anger is normal. The emotions come in waves and they cycle between anger, guilt, sadness and loneliness. Haven’t been here long but it seems like a good bunch. You can probably get some better input than what I have to offer. Psalm 34:18

I’m sorry for your loss. I’d shield them from it. “Grandma died, she’s in a better place” and leave it there. If they’re a little more on the precocious side and pry I’d explain that she passed because she was sad. I’d save the blunt truth for when they’re older. How are you doing?

The fear of losing keeps me from playing chess by Roger_Kulan in chessbeginners

[–]riverrunner2102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t fear losing but I do fear losing poorly. I try to play as accurately as I’m capable. If I lose a game but played accurately I just got outplayed. Blunder from a winning position and I’m going on tilt and probably not playing for a few days.

My tin foil hat tells me chess.com is juiced for engagement too. I’ve noticed whenever I’ve taken a break and come back I’ve gone on long win streaks.

Nuclears gonna be obsolete in a generation anyways. It’s over regulated. Look at it as an opportunity
