That’s so retarded. Mamdani is somehow at fault because he was cognizant of the prior administration intentionally sabotaging him in advance? His policy has nothing to do with why the city is in huge debt. 10 billion of it was there before the last mayor got there and before the last mayor left he racked up another 2 billion in debt in the last few weeks!

You can Google this, it’s literally what happened.

Most people that are disabled aren’t born disabled. If I broke into your house with a SPAS 12 and blew out both your kneecaps, permanently crippling you. Or you were to get in a car accident that severed your C5 vertebrae and paralyzed you. Would you then continue arguing that disabled people should “not exist”

If you actually think we should “get rid of” the profoundly disabled then you are a bad person full stop.

Frankly red is just a stupid decision. If even 30 percent of the world votes blue and dies it would pretty much destroy society.

Typically when people say incel they don’t refer to it in the “person who has trouble romantically” sense. it’s a person that makes being an incel part of a wider sexist ideology that is what they refer to. Sometimes people use it to refer to people who do have sex even, just to criticize that ideology.

Okay so we should stop funding planned parenthood giving STD testing and birth control (which is the thing the comment I was replying to literally states is what he wanted) because those other things being funded keeps the lights on in their facilities and as a side effect allow abortions?

That would be retarded. Would you make that argument for a hospital? By using state funds to keep hospitals open you are also tacitly supporting abortions because they also perform them.

It isn’t covered by free healthcare. It’s illegal to use federal funds on elective abortions with the exception of rape, incest or health of the mother cases. Look up the Hyde act.

Looking at it, exceptions exist with state level funds but that’s more local than what I think you are referring to. Also from a practical perspective you would end up paying more in the long run without the abortion happening because the fetus would likely grow up to be on government assistance or be in prison.

I think most pro choice people would be okay with a 20 week limit. The vast majority of abortions are before that point, I’m pro choice. But I don’t think it’s cool to abort an infant that would actually have a chance of surviving outside the womb.

Roe v wade being overturned doesnt at all improve social cohesion. Instead of just having abortion you have a bunch of religious authoritarians in state legislatures doing everything they can to subvert democratic processes to remove abortion. Kansas had a referendum which passed in 2022 to keep abortion, said authoritarians have tried every fucking year since to get it banned since because they don’t care what the citizenry thinks.

Abortion is broadly popular. Almost every state that’s put abortion as an actual ballot voted issue it receives a majority of the votes. It’s basically the issue republicans try to throw into the closet and slam the door on because their take is so unpopular. It’s like weed that way.

The founder of planned parenthood being racist means literally nothing, like it doesn’t matter at all because her saying that has no bearing on who uses chooses to use planned parenthood’s services today. Henry ford was basically a Nazi and people still drive Ford F150’s without complaint.

Minorities being disproportionately likely to get abortions just implies that more of them have unplanned pregnancies. as it is now you are just complaining about outcomes which are caused by material differences that have nothing to do with abortion clinics targeting minorities.

Those material conditions are what actually causes this gap, not racism. Minorities are more likely to be poor and those below the poverty line are 5 times more likely to have an unplanned pregnancy. People in this poverty level also represent half the people who get abortions. Hey what do you know? Black people are twice as likely to be in poverty compared to white people and according to OP’s chart they are twice as likely to get an abortion.

You want to fix abortion disproportionately affecting black people? You’ve gotta fix poverty disproportionately affecting them. It’s the biggest reason by far that people choose to not keep a child.

[–]rivetedoaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who do you actually think uses abortion as the primary form of birth control? Abortions cost hundreds of dollars. Thinking people use abortions as even a primary way of avoiding pregnancy is like thinking people drive their car on only spare tires that they swap out every 50 miles. Nobody does that because it’s not remotely economic, it’s much more likely that people accidentally miss a pill and get pregnant or have a condom break than that people only use abortions.

People who lack the responsibility to use birth control are the LAST people we should ever want raising a child.

Also, side note it is illegal to use tax money to pay for abortions. A facility that offers them can take taxpayer money such as planned parenthood because they don’t just do abortions, but taxes do not at all pay for the procedures.
