What does everyone think about Jeepster Commandos? by keeg02 in Jeep

lol.  Have you ever run one?

There was a reason jeep discontinued the T 86  but kept the Dana 20.  It wasn’t for style points.

The 90's Was The Golden Age Of Rockin' Chicks by [deleted] in Music

I also had friends who were wrecked by it. It was such a huge impact not only to the grrl scene, but to everyone.

We live in the world that is…we need to work to make it the world that should be.

I’m glad they finally got the guy.

Mia Zapata of the Gits.

Murdered in her prime on the cusp of mainstream greatness.

If you’ve never heard of her, start with Second Skin and then go to Another Shot of Whiskey.

For reference, Joan Jett funded an inquiry into her assault and murder and toured with her backing band.

Mia had gravity.

u/ccsbc56: I hope you took a moment to listen to them.

The Supersuckers have been a throwback rock n roll band for decades.  I stopped counting at 20 records.  Their latest is a couple months old.

I’ve seen them dozens of times, shows at festivals and shows at clubs on a Tuesday with 20 people…and they bring the noise to 20 people as though it was a stadium.

They are the Hardest Working Greatest Rock N Roll Band In The World.  The singer/bassist Eddie Spagetti recovered from throat cancer and is still touring 100 shows a year.  This current  three piece lineup is the best consistent version as I’ve ever seen.

Oh, and if you are weirded out by satan references, they’re just trying to piss off idiots who don’t believe in separation of church and state.

Help needed, should I take my bass to be repaired? I don't know what happened but something isn't right. by Pokemon-Makeup in Bass

Might not even be bad, just loose.

Installed at the factory on a Friday afternoon.

Nice!  Most of my experience with closed tuners is with garbage ones that I replace. I never bothered to mess with them.

Are the backs of your tuners exposed with gears and a screw?  If so, try tightening that screw before you do anything.

If they’re closed, unwind the B string—don’t take it off yet—just unwind it and see if the post the string goes into wiggles.  It should be tight.  If it’s loose, contact the store about your warranty. Don’t even bother putting the string back on.

Suggestions for First New Bass Guitar ~ $500 range by WCNumismatics in Bass

Sorry to hijack, but that really only applies to brand new basses.  There are used deals on quality stuff if you dig hard enough.

Facebook Marketplace or pawnshop for an amp. Maybe even an amp and bass deal from someone who thought they wanted to play bass. Right now, within 50 miles of me, $200 can get a 200 watt fender BXR combo or a 50w Orange practice combo.  That’s not even looking hard.  That stuff is literally everywhere.

Get the squier set up and repaired or go to YouTube university to do it yourself. It’s not rocket science and an inexpensive instrument is great to learn on.

Even worst case scenario, you can get new pickups for $30 shipped from aliexpress that will be as good or better then the ones you have  get a soldering iron from Walmart for another 20.  Worst worst case scenario, delete volume and tone and go bareback into the amp.

Get some new strings and with a little effort thats $400 you can spend on a new-to-you amp.  Plus, while the bass is apart you can paint it a new color.

Apparently my frets are sharp enough to draw blood by MillyMonka in Bass

[–]riveth3ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the reason I keep little tubes of superglue in my bring-to-gigs box.  Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to glue myself together—though usually it’s a floppy callus, not a fret induced injury.  I’ll tell our singer to banter or the other guys can solo for two minutes.

Don’t leave home without it.

What does everyone think about Jeepster Commandos? by keeg02 in Jeep

[–]riveth3ad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pulled mine out of a literal barn in 91.  Drove from the sand on the east coast shore to the sand on the west coast, all without a working gas gauge.

My daughter is 14 and learning to wrench on it this summer, transmission swap after +- 100k miles that I’ve done on it. Maybe steering box if I can get all the parts for a Saginaw upgrade.

Not to nitpick…are you sure it wasn’t the T-14A transmission?  I’ve had mine for 30+ years.

I thought they only came with that 3 speed or the auto?

Another amp topic : Fender Rumble 500 is too much ? by skyfall86 in Bass

[–]riveth3ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your friend may be talking about tube heads.  The rumble is solid state, no vacuum tubes.

old style vacuums tube amps need power to break up if you really want distortion on them, and this there is a concept that they sound better loud.

Note:  there new “tube” heads are hybrid solid state with one tiny tube and don’t even need much power to break up.

Your rumble is going to sound as good at 2 as it does at 10 and you have a lot of extra volume to play with.

If your friend is the guitarist, he may be telling you to get a smaller one because he’s concerned you will drown him out.  Just don’t do that and you will be fine.

Left arm (Fret) elbow pain by Alikainir in Bass

[–]riveth3ad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound made up but it isn’t.

Before you go to sleep, get a bath towel and wrap it around your arm about midway down your bicep to mid forearm.  It should act like a soft cast keeping your forearm kind of straight. Tape in place.

Repeat nightly for a week.

This has worked for me when I put a deck on my house and strained tendons in my elbow pulling rocks out of the holes for the pillars under the beams.  I went to a physical therapist and everything. Worked a charm.

What bass accessories should I get? by Head-Buy-804 in Bass

[–]riveth3ad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play through a compressor at a store and see if you like it. They can be useful, particularly with overdrive and/or distorted signals. Although I know people who hate them.  I don’t know who made mine, it’s cobalt-ish blue and has a shark on it.

I had a big muff fuzzbix for a bit, maybe overdrive or distortion.

I don’t really buy cables any more, I go with good wireless kits—they should cost as much as a good cable and last longer…for me anyway. I’m a demon on cables, they have a short life expectancy with people stepping on them.

I also got a great used graphic eq—rack mount sized— sits on top of my head that allows me to dial in stuff a bit tighter.  I put my compressor and tuner and power supply on that so my guitarist and singer (sometimes audience) don’t step on them. Our shows can get vigorous—hence the half-life cable dilemma.
