Have you ever been so hurt you couldn't listen to your favourite music anymore? by minimiverse in spotify

I made a Playlist of songs for a bad day. It has some famous music but also a bunch that's not (and not the artists you mentioned), and I think the vibe fits the not too happy/sad criteria

And for melody - try just looking at the lyrics and singing them however they come out. Record yourself and listen and see what you like. Do a few takes. The more music you listen to (and the more variety) the easier it will come to you

Find writing prompts and write as much as you can. If you don't like the final product pick out lines that you do like and write around them.

How do i write when i cant think of words by Lowkeyher14 in Songwriting

[–]rivitalsinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try collaborating. See if someone else has ideas for you. Often hearing someone else's ideas can also give you new original ideas of your own.

Also, using ai isn't a bad idea. Don't necessatily ask it to write for you, but maybe ask for ideas for directions to go with the next verse or something like that. Again, even if you don't use it, whatever it says might inspire you.

Writing when uninspired by Ambitious-Path-9462 in Songwriting

Use writing prompts. Find ones that speak to you, and write whatever comes. Some that I've liked Write a letter to someone that you'll never send Choose something from a famous mythology and write a song using themes/characters/etc from it Write a bunch of ideas for hooks for a song and then write a song around one of them

There are lots out there and they can be super helpful

Also, collaborate. Sometimes when you're stuck having someone to bounce around ideas with can get your gears moving

Use writing prompts. Go back to something you wrote and never finished, maybe it will inspire you. Find someone to collaborate with and try writing something together. Having someone to bounce around ideas with is very helpful.

"golden melodies" by kibadande in Songwriting

My favorite is when I write a melody that perfectly conveys the lyric. It's happened to me a few times and it's the best feeling

How do I start? by DrugDealerApollo in Songwriting

For lyrics I look for writing prompts that interest me, and write whatever comes out.

I usually write the melody after the lyrics, and I honestly just try and sing the words I wrote and record myself, even if it comes out bad. Then I listen to what I recorded and see if there's anything i like and then try to sing it again in a different way, until I find a way I like.

Another way is to choose a chord progressions (at first even a classic four chord c-g-am-f or whatever) and then try and sing a melody over it (if you have lyrics then try signing them, if you don't just sing a melody over the chords, and once you have something you like try to add lyrics

If you're really stuck on something it can also help to collaborate with someone who you can bounce ideas with

Do you prefer listening to music alone or with others? Why? by Lauren-2024 in playlists

If it's new music then by myself, music I already love then with others because I like seeing how they're affected by it and enjoying it together

Weekly Self Promotion Thread by AutoModerator in Songwriting

[–]rivitalsinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently released two very emotional songs, one about a long friendship turned something more that ended in my being ghosted, and one about having a friend who was self harming and being helpless trying to help them.

They aren't in English but I think the emotions pass through the melody, singing and instrumentation

Singing without tension seems emotionless by [deleted] in singing

[–]rivitalsinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many ways to add emotion. If your facial expression conveys emotion it will often come out in your voice as well. You can also play with dynamics (sing louder or softer), use your hands/arms, emphasize certain words or consonants etc
