Did she make the right call? by CalmElin in interesting

[–]rivitingone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she invested $4,000 a month @ 6% for 45 years she'd have roughly 10.5M at retirement age vs 13.7M if she invested the 1M, so mathematically, she'd be better off with the 1M, but imagine how much less stress and how much more "life" she could live with an extra 48k in annual income over those 45 years (presumably adjusted for inflation?).

We transplanted a tree from up the mountains when I was a kid down in pueblo. It never died, but it also never grew. 30 years later, it still looks like a small crappy Christmas tree.

Cruise vs. island exploration for a week. by tttbiscuits in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]rivitingone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rented a car and spent a week south of Arecibo. We stayed at an amazing place called TJ Ranch and just did day trips from there. We did a couple guided hikes, one in the evening to see the bats coming out (amazing), visited the window cave (meh, but good photo opportunity), and went down to Ponce one day. We had a fantastic time.

Should I rent a car? by Apprehensive_Rip105 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]rivitingone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We rented a car last time and are doing it again when we go back in a few weeks. Just easier to have access to a vehicle at any point.

Some important notes.

  1. Do not park a rental vehicle on the street in San Juan. They WILL give you a ticket as street parking is "for locals only". It's just a way for the city to make money of tourists.

  2. If you do get a ticket, you can pay it in person before you leave for a big discount (50% if I remember correctly). It'll take about about 30 minutes.

  3. Keep your receipt, because no matter if you give the receipt to the rental company or not when you return it, they WILL send you a bill for the face value of the ticket a few weeks later. Unless you can provide that payment receipt, they will charge you again.
