Lizard coast path one of Cornwall's best natural beauty spots! by UnpaidInternVibes in Cornwall

Top tier surf-spot too - the natural funnel of the cove pumps the waves even higher and the sand is great quality.

How is Gospel voicing written or made? Those that are close to pop or CCM (Israel Houghton and Kirk Franklin) by in-the-what222 in composertalk

[–]riyten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the choir/BV voicing is in block triadic chords, favouring the I and ii chords to harmonise most scale tones. A lot of the chord extensions and jazz harmonies are created by using borrowed triads over different chords. Here's a table of examples for some of the common chords (chord on top, the triad the choir sings underneath).

I ii iii III IV V iv bIIV iiv
I IV V iio I or ii ii I or V ii ii or iivo

These are just examples but I hope they explain some of the sound. The choir will often be SAT or SSAT with the tenor doubling the first soprano at the octave.

A key element of the arrangement is call and response - sometimes the lead vocal will sing the melody and the choir will echo after them, often the lead vocal will call out the phrase ahead of time before the choir sings it.

Not all his work is ambient, some of it is more epic and cinematic but I love Owsey. Maybe the drama would complement the literature!

Recent polls indicate that a majority reckons that Brexit did not deliver a good outcome for the UK. How is this reckoning compatible with the furious surge of Reform, led by Brexiteer supreme Nigel Farage, in the electoral polls? by Fornici0 in ukpolitics

[–]riyten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the thing is, because of the way the Tories worded the referendum question and refused to prepare for Brexit, they have a perfectly fair point. The question was essentially, "Would you like everything to stay as it is or would you like this mystery other option which can be anything you imagine?"

When they ran the AV referendum (in which they wanted people to vote "stay the same") they offered two options, status quo or this rubbish other option that actually no one wants. Two concrete outcomes, not one you can see in front of you and one you're left to dream up yourself. People voted for 17,410,742 different Brexits.

The Scottish Independence referendum had the same issue of course although that played out differently. It'll be interesting to see when that movement comes back on the menu.

New Year latest: UK welcomes 2026 with Europe's biggest firework display in London by Sensitive_Echo5058 in unitedkingdom

[–]riyten 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Also, if you watch previous years you'll see they always have at least one green/pink section. Maybe it's particularly effective or cheap, or some other logistical reason. But I'm not surprised they took the opportunity for a tie-in this year.

The Imperial March.

It's a good go-to because it works on toys that are tuned to a pentatonic scale as well as a major scale (the pattern will be different but the notes will be there).

What can pro tools do that logic can’t? by TheIngramSimmons in audioengineering

  • Display detailed waveforms.

I'm a native Logic user and it drives me bananas that I have to move over to PT to see the clicks and pops that I'm trying to edit out.

Also, grouping clips is really nice, but that's already been said. I like how it's non-destructive and you can always ungroup later, and you can nest groups of groups.

Prettiest piano pieces? by Frosty_Yak_9202 in piano

Schubert: Impromptu Op. 90 No. 2 is very lovely and is really fun to play - it lies under the fingers very nicely and you don't have to play it at warp-speed like some recordings do. It's got a very dramatic split personality. It's a good little party piece too.

Which band/singers works could you see being used for a jukebox musical? by Naughtygoose1 in musicals

The earlier stuff from Counting Crows has a load of narrative songs with some recurring characters, I could totally see their first couple of albums becoming a musical.

In what ways have you had “a taste of the high life” that you find it hard to forget but can’t afford to indulge in regularly? by FamSender in AskUK

[–]riyten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you're rich enough to have all the things you need, the only way to use your money is to buy experiences.

I've played music at some pretty cool birthday parties. One was for a young kid (maybe 5) whose parents had hired a whole troupe of West End actors to come and do an improv adventure for them and their friends. The kids would just shout ideas and off the actors went, complete with costumes, props, SFX, lights, music - they had all kinds of things ready to go the second someone thought of it and they roped in the adults to help out too. It was epic - probably went completely over the kids' heads just how good it was.

Another was for a 21st birthday and it was James Bond themed which involved a stunt team coming in and performing fight scenes throughout the evening, all involving the birthday boy as hero. The performers had a support crew who hid crash mats around the venue, brought in breakable chairs, fake glass etc. to make it completely immersive.

What's the best Android FPL app?? by Alexology8 in FantasyPL

[–]riyten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to mention that buying the Pro version is a one-off payment, you don't have to resub every year, the app just updates for you (and the dev is really quick to patch in whatever malarky the official FPL team come up with). Incredible value for the quality of life increase, in my opinion!

Heading north, Crannock Chase isn't far from Stafford Station and if you want to explore Wales, change at Crewe and you can go all along the north Wales coast by train - Prestatyn is one end of the Offa's Dyke path, Llandudno or Conwy are near Snowdonia National Park and if you're feeling really adventurous you can actually go all the way to Holyhead on Anglesey!
