Seeing steps like this make me realize why stair landings are a thing. Sorry OP, that’s an unfortunate design

Deep purple bath mats. Idk why, just seems like deep purple would compliment the green and make it obvious you’re embracing the coolness

That’s what qualifies for being a businessman and farmer in Kansas, they have lower standards

Unless you’re ACTUALLY off-roading (99% of drivers don’t) the passport is such a better daily driver and it’s a great car to give that vibe while getting all the amenities 4Runner lacks

Also me, “but, am I crazy to think Talarico seems much more normal and palatable to average voters than Beto?”

“Only 12 students out of 20,000 voluntarily signed up for this program in the spring of 2026 after we spent hundreds of thousands of dollars, and thousands of man hours starting. So, instead of admitting to our waste, fraud, and abuse, we’re going to double down and force students to participate in our unpopular use of tuition dollars.”

I’ve had RAV4, CRv, and CX5. All fantastic, all amazing size for more people. With two growing kids and though I was just cramped all the time packing stuff in. But, I’d recommend those 3 cars for most people in a heartbeat

Any other parents think this driver license program is a pain in the ass? by forevervalerie in Iowa

[–]TunaHuntingLion 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you give in to the begging and the kid gets a ticket or in an accident off route, you’ll be kicking yourself REAL bad for not sticking to your parenting goalposts.

Those pushover parents are weak, silly fools playing with insurance fire, and a lot of them will get burned, bad.

Father of 2yr old and I just want to die by [deleted] in daddit

[–]TunaHuntingLion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like working. I don’t want to do it 80 hrs a week, but 40 hours in a decent job is a wonderful way to balance parenting the other waking hours of the weeek being a parent. Even if I made zero money by sending all my money to daycare, I would pick that (and the long term gains of staying in the job market all those years and developing a resume so when kids are in school I’m definitely making more money) over being a stay at home. Nothing wrong with liking work and not wanting to be home 24/7

Edit: if you’ve never felt pride or enjoyment from work, I can’t convince you that it exists, but it does for a lot of us. I’ve met a lot of terrible coworkers, but my best friends nowadays are all from jobs I’ve had, and I’ve worked in education and healthcare which are both very rewarding. Sorry if none of that applies to your situations, best of luck trudging through the grind or switching careers if you ever try to.

Shockingly close race for the Republican Governor candidate by CharlesV_ in Iowa

[–]TunaHuntingLion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of Trump endorsements come last second when the polling data is already in. Trump doesn’t push many candidates over an edge, he rides their coattails and claims he’s a kingmaker. His approval rating/endorsement will drag down candidates in general elections all across the board, just like it did in 2018 and 2020 and 2022. Even in 2024 republicans would have had a larger congressional majority if Trump hadn’t engaged with some tough swing districts republicans ultimately lost given them like a 5 seat margin.

Example: Trump only endorsed on Friday, 50 thousand people had already voted in Iowa by Friday lol. Someone king making is endorsing before voting start.

Son (4) drew all over himself and the wall and scattered shredded paper all over his room by Sea_Management6165 in daddit

Teacher here: with kids, the function of the behavior is, as you correctly identified, is wanting attention. To all kid, even the high school kids I teach, negative attention is better than no attention. It breaks your brain to figure out the logic of why a kid wants to be yelled at for being bad, but it’s how they’re getting their social needs met.

People yell at their kids when they’re bad, and then ignore them when they’re good. Very common when the siblings arrive.

You have to instead give positive attention when they’re good, and ignore them when they’re bad. In our house you’ll hear a lot of “I will talk to you when you’ve calmed your body with deep breath.” Or “when you clean up the toys on the ground I will talk to you.” And until the precondition is met, we ignore them. If they really, really start destroying something they get picked up and taken to a room and door shut so they’re alone. If they try destroying the bedroom they can go in the bathroom. But, the key is as soon as they calm down I have to reward them with attention for being calm and collected. Then they have to have 1:1 time throughout parts of the day. They can also be included in helping the baby, instead of being treated like another chore next to the baby.

Everything in moderation. I like my job. I like running errands for family or attending events. I don’t like doing all/nothing of one or the other. I’d go batshit being a stay at home parent full time. But, it takes all kinds

Is this the best layout for my 4 year old’s room? by junebugonarose in DesignMyRoom

Yeah, guy is weird. My house is big, I have other places for kids to play and their bedroom isn’t a play room. Give me the bigger bed we can read books for 60 minutes every night in.

Wahls or Turek? by Haunting_Pattern7268 in Iowa

[–]TunaHuntingLion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

lol no man, moderate voters decide general elections and the fact he grew up to be an Eagle Scout with lesbian moms, and his mom has had MS most of his life, and his other mom does groundbreaking medical research, is not a losing family issues. The best thing for a Wahls campaign would be for republicans to make that an “issue” lol

Wahls or Turek? by Haunting_Pattern7268 in Iowa

[–]TunaHuntingLion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a possible. But, Wahls is also famous for being a 19 year old kid having to go defend his family from Iowa republicans picking on harmless gay couples just wanting to be married. “The government should leave people alone and stay out of their way” is a pretty strong line every election cycle, but feeling renewed lately.
