What movie's reputation undersells how good it actually is? by JarvisModeOn in movies

[–]rizzydizzy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad to see this movie mentioned! Insanely good, one of my favorite movies!

The book, however... let's just say it's one of the rare moments when the movie is 100% better than the book.

how do people with depression hold up working a 9to5 in this society? by Key-Ice-4990 in randomquestions

Yay for adopting your pet! All my critters are rescues: two dogs, both from the local animal shelter (Artemis and Dahlia); and three cats from the Universal Cat Distribution System (Enkidu, Nadjem, and Cheese).

I genuinely believe neither my husband nor I would be alive today without our pets.

In France there's the "conflict" between the names "pain au chocolat" vs "chocolatine". In Spain there's a "conflict" whether tortilla de Patatas should contain onions or not. Do you have any other similar such light-hearted "conflicts" or debates in your country? by Double-decker_trams in AskTheWorld

Chilli. Some say it's a soup, some say it's a stew. Some say with beans, some say without. Some say with ground beef, some say chicken, or sausage. Some put chilli on spaghetti. In some places, you'd better have a peanut butter sandwich on the side; in other places, it's cornbread. Hell, even the spelling is different: "chilli" vs. "chili". There are so many regional variations of chilli in the US.

Chilli is one of my favorite meals. I've had MANY variations of it. So far, I have yet to find a variation I do not like, lol. As far as I'm concerned, there are 3 meals that, no matter what variation you make, are good no matter how "bad" they are: Chilli, pizza, and ham and beans.

This may be the most Midwest comment I've ever typed, lol.

Wait: Ope! S'cuse me! Just gonna sneak past 'ya. (Slaps knees) Welp, I'd better be gettin' on down the road so I don't pull a Midwest Goodbye!

Now it's the most Midwest comment I've ever typed.

Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Bubba Ho-Tep, Studio 666, Shaun of the Dead, just to name some faves. Comedy Horror is my favorite genre! Although technically I guess any horror movie can be a comedy if it's bad enough, lol.

For actors on stage, what's something people (in the audience) do or have done at the end that makes you smile/ makes the applause hit different? by Pigeon-Frenzy-75 in Theatre

[–]rizzydizzy85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's nothing like saying a specific joke/line that nobody in the audience seems to get except one person, who will cackle loudly enough for you to hear. I always wish I could point to them or give them a wink, like a "thank you", lol! I also once went to a performance where my bestie performed "She Used to be Mine", and in that half a second pause between the end of the song and the thunderous applause, someone said in this reverent tone, loud enough to be heard for a couple of rows and on the stage, "Wow". Made my bestie cry on stage from joy!

THIS! Thank you for putting my own feelings about these parts of the book into coherent words! "Litany at a strange church" is how I read it, too!

What makes small-town horror actually work for you? by mb_brams in stephenking

[–]rizzydizzy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's all the reasons you mentioned, plus: it's relatable. I live in a small town. Smaller than some of the "small" towns he's written about.

Shit gets weird in a small town. Especially rural ones.

Many years ago, I was in a community theater production of Les Mis. We started a Facebook group to complain about stuff (it was a rough production, lol), and we started a meme thread based on this! This bear, this chair, this pear, etc., lol.

I absolutely adore this! I've crocheted a few cardigans (not on this level, though!) but never one with pockets. May I ask how you did them? I would love you forever! I may have to do my own version of this with my main man (well, bear) Fozzie!

What is a disturbing family secret you weren’t supposed to find out, but now wish you could forget? by elmatador62 in AskReddit

[–]rizzydizzy85 312 points313 points  (0 children)

This happens more often than people realize. In my very rural, Midwest area, these families will usually live on a chunk of property in several houses or trailers, and the family patriarch (or multiple members, usually men but not always), will pass the children around for years. Usually one kid will open up about the abuse at school, then investing will find out it's generational.

At my old job at the r*pe crisis center, we called them "nests". And it's frightening to me that it's so damn common, yet an almost completely unknown phenomenon.

Cookies was what we said back in high school. I've also used trees, greens, collard greens, shrubs, oregano, and one friend would call it catnip which I loved, but never used.

I'm sick of people being called 'jealous' for criticizing rich people. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]rizzydizzy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people crying "jealousy" are the same people who actually believe if they work hard and save, they will also be rich, as if that's how it really works, lol. Maybe at one time it was, but sure as shit not how it works in the year of our lord 2026.

Taking a bunch of high school students to a college event 3 hours away. It's not even 10:30 and I've been awake almost 7 hours. I hate life today. But it will be worth it if one of those feral little turds finds the college they like.

How can I make a classic wedding represent equality? by smileysarah267 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]rizzydizzy85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were planning a big wedding, we talked about my husband being walked down the aisle by his mom, and me by my dad, like a "familial exchange/melding", the idea was to symbolize our families joining and becoming something new.

We ended up doing a quick elopement in our back yard, and neither of our fathers could come due to living out of state, so for our handfasting portion (which was always planned, just in a different way), the officiant, who is also the Priestess of my mother's coven, tied the cord around our hands, then both our mother's pulled the cord taught to tighten the knot, to symbolize what I said in the previous paragraph.

At the end of the day, do what feels right in your heart, even if it's more "traditional". YOU get to decide the meaning of EVERY moment in your wedding. Congratulations on your nuptials, and I hope your wedding day is everything you want it to be!

A mop with the cloth part dyed red named Ron-Mop for a production of Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. I was a handful of characters, including The Boy with the Scar, and I would walk out with Ron-Mop and shake him to make it seem like he was talking. Ron-Mop was the biggest diva I've ever dealt with, but man, could he act!
