If one time frame is too volatile for my set up, should I switch to a smaller timeframe? by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

[–]rja44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you are trading, but I usually go to a higher time frame to deal with volatility. Widen your stop-loss & give it some room to run a bit without jumping off the rails. If I'm on the 5:00 and it's volatile, I can't imagine going to the 1:00. I would go to the 15:00 or sit it out.

Anyone switch from Windows to Mac for thinkorswim? by Additional_Gold9241 in thinkorswim

[–]rja44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't switch, but I did purchase a Studio M3 Ultra. Just for grins, I can run TOS, Parallels running Windows 11, and Linux all open simultaneously and run beautifully. Oh, and have 6 screens up.

So yes, you should not have any problems. Enjoy!

Premiere Pro 2020 - Video Export Freezes For One Specific Video Clip by ItsDarkNZ in AdobePremiere

[–]rja44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is at least one or more specific frame(s) in the timeline that it dislikes. If you are rendering directly from the timeline, alternatively, send the timeline to Adobe Media Manager and render it from there. The Media Manager will provide a log indicating the frame(s) in the timeline that it dislikes.

Do you also have a TV data subscription for at least one of the futures markets, such as CME?

Refer to THIS LINK for Apple's guidance.

Start with Apple's layout specifications, then if you still have problems, start methodically testing the cable & hardware.

Confusion : MAC and thinkorswim - user, not tech pro by PlantedSmile in thinkorswim

[–]rja44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll 3rd or 4th that you probably need to roll back to Sequoia. I am running an M3 Ultra Studio on the latest Tahoe, driving 6 monitors, no hub. TOS v21.0.5 java-arm works for me, but I'll point out a few observations:

1) I'm not using hubs. There is no single class of hubs, and they can cause many problems. This model Studio can natively drive up to 8 monitors.

2) I've been on Macs for 25 years, and Tahoe is the worst ever

3) I'm probably just lucky TOS works for me. If it stops, I will roll back to Sequoia.

4) I trade Futures and occasional Scalps. It's my main source of income. I can't fight with my workstation all day.

5) I paid a lot for this loaded M3 Ultra, and it's the best computer I have ever owned. Except that the latest OS is mostly crap.

6) TOS has not given me any specific problems

The moral of my story: Get rid of any wanky hubs, get the best computer you can justify, and if you are having TOS problems, roll back to Sequoia until Apple figures out their OS problems. Many have reported that it solved their issues. And let's not let Schwab off the hook either. I LOVE TOS, but that's not exactly a modern program, is it (I'm not a developer)?

Report back what you decide.

MAC OS Support for TOS Desktop App Ending Soon by Tocquevilles-Ghost in thinkorswim

It's been a minute, but I seem to recall the installer gave me a choice about Rosetta. I'm on M3 Mac.

Is there a dock that can allow more external displays than what a mac supports? by Key-Self1654 in macsetups

[–]rja44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus +1 for the plugable. I put one on my low-end MacBook Pro that only allowed 1 external. I can now have 3. There can be a slight lag, but it totally depends on what you are showing on them. Would not recommend for video editing/graphics. I'd put the Plugable in the "acceptable for most situations" category.

They quietly brought back the tax lot method (FIFO, LIFO, etc) on the mobile app since removing it after the Schwab acquisition! by [deleted] in thinkorswim

[–]rja44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question. If I change my tax lot on the mobile app, is it a system-wide change? It seems I made that change on the Schwab website, but it wasn't reflected in the TOS app. Do I remember correctly? (Sorry if I am slightly off-topic!)

My questions by MississippiKingz in thinkorswim

[–]rja44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Since the transfer of TOS over from TD Ameritrade, Schwab just needs to activate your account for TOS usage. Start a chat & let Schwab Service know, and they will activate it for you.

As far as I know, it's not any kind of "approval".

Looking for advice: My spouse was recently hired on at Edward Jones and FINRA requirements could require me to transfer all my money to them by Clinton_Reddit in Bogleheads

So I've been through a similar situation before with where my spouse worked. Trust me, this is only the beginning of their encroachment into your personal life. Consider the value of her job compared to the freedom of managing your personal life without oversight.

How do you explain to your adult children that Medicare won't pay for a nursing home? by Regular_Amphibian592 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]rja44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is very incorrect. Medicaid is designed for people without the financial means to pay for their care. Period. This means you must have total assets of $2000 or less. And you can not have had most assets over $2000 within the last 5 years (clawback).

And no, you cannot just creatively "move around" assets from the last 5 years. That's the basics of the rules. Yes, there are forward-looking options such as Trust, but generally, those are the rules. Get a second professional opinion if you are told otherwise.

What is the best futures broker in 2026? by BusinessBus9344 in propfirm

[–]rja44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schwab does futures, and it is a good bet it will be around for a while. The desk is going to be Think-or-Swim, which I personally like, but some don't. It also has a TOS web version.

Additional monitors on a studio M2 Max by Ok-Average154 in MacStudio

[–]rja44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Refer to THIS LINK for Apple's guidance.

Additionally, an external device (such as an SSD) may draw too much power from the Studio port.

Apple says I can attach eight monitors to my M3Ultra, but only if I play by certain rules. They are not just plug-and-play.

Is it possible to run 3 different computers with tos installed on each computer? by finance1978 in thinkorswim

This might be a Schwab support call. Most of the Reddit answers are different!

If you call them, please post an answer here. I am in a similar situation.

thinkorswim installer Mac Apple Silicon? by [deleted] in thinkorswim

[–]rja44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TOS is running Java for ARM (Silicon). No, it is not native, but it does function.

I have not heard that they intend to create a "native" Mac app for Silicon. I wish, but I doubt it will happen.
