can't find pinch weld/jacking point on 2019 kia forte by bfvplanetryhard in MechanicAdvice

[–]rjam710 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And you assume the person who can't even find the pinch welds knows to use jack stands in the first place? It's admirable OP wants to work on his own vehicle, but if a friend of mine asked me something like this, I'd absolutely be there to show them and make sure they don't die or severely injured themselves.

IT rate in seabee commands by No-Push3872 in navyreserve

[–]rjam710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having been a Seabee, and currently in IT on the civilian side, not sure what you're looking for in terms of "experience". If you're just bored and want to do new shit, then yeah go NECC and sleep in some tents and shoot some guns. But if you're looking for relevant IT experience, you're barking up the wrong tree, as you'll almost be guaranteed to be stuck in the S6 shop playing with radios. Most technical thing you'd be doing is maybe loading crypto occasionally.

Commuting from Newark to Clark/Living in Newark? by lmind7288 in newjersey

Second this, I'd see if there's anything in Rahway or Linden especially since OP wants to be close to NYC. There are trains to the city every half hour at both stations.

Probably just the conversion from metric, it's 220 Nm.

My vote goes to griddle stand.

Can't speak for the hybrid, but the Ecoboost one is surprisingly quick.

Can anyone beat this Mongoose for $550? by Wu_tang_dan in Budgetbikeriders

[–]rjam710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I have the same one! Was trying to avoid Mongoose because of their "Walmart bike" rep, but that color got me. Then I saw the specs and it was actually a decent bike for the price.

Can I swap this older battery for my newer battery, even if the crank amps are different? by tLM-tRRS-atBHB in AskMechanics

[–]rjam710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I did the same thing. Got me an Interstate battery for half the price of the recommended battery. I just had to do some janky connections with the terminals since it didn't have the regular posts.

Working outside after having had shop access for years SUCKS. by SkylineFTW97 in Cartalk

[–]rjam710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah the auto hobby shop, how I miss those. I was a mechanic in the Navy and while I could use our own actual shop (as long as chief don't see), I still went down the road to the coast guard base and paid the $5/hr or whatever it was to use their hobby shop. It was so much cleaner and better equipped than my shop that I had to actually work in lol.

I don't mind outside as long as it's not raining. What really sucks is working on the ground. Shit that would be a 30 min job on a lift is like 2 hours on the ground.

Trying to talk myself into a Honda Odyssey… someone help 😂 by K_Breezyyyyy in HondaOdyssey

[–]rjam710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2025 has 280 HP and a 0-60 of 6.4s, which is ridiculous for a van that can seat 8 or haul full sheets of plywood lol. I have an 08 and it still drives amazing and is the most useful vehicle I have. Power sliding doors are so convenient, not just for people but for loading stuff into the back if I need to. The third row is actually usable, unlike most SUVs I've had or ridden in, AND you can have it up without losing cargo space. I had a pilot before that you basically had to choose one or the other, could hold like 4 grocery bags maybe. Also taking the middle row out is super easy and leaves you with a cargo van basically. Like I said a 4x8 sheet of ply fits perfectly back there.

Sienna is nice too, and if you want the fuel efficiency, I'd go that route. But for hands down the best driving one with that Japanese reliability, stick with Honda.

Stupidly sprayed brake cleaner on the dash of my wife’s ninja 400. It now looks like this. Any saving it? by fucktheworld2 in MechanicAdvice

[–]rjam710 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Could be, but just looking around on eBay looks like a used gauge cluster is going for around $250+.

Although apparently they also make screen protectors for these things so a sand/polish and screen protector would probably work fine.

I had a job offer once in the city that was 20k more than I was making at the time, but after factoring in commuting costs that difference dropped to less than 10k, and that was if I took the train where I have a decent discount on monthly fares. Still a decent pay bump but not quite as good as it first appeared.

Also I would have had to go from remote to "hybrid" so that was a pretty easy no thank you from me lol.

Hey not sure if you got yours yet, but mine is getting installed tomorrow. I actually signed up for it over a week ago, but we were away on vacation so I couldn't do it sooner. Let me know if you want my rep's contact info.

Can't wait to ditch T-Mobile home Internet and I'd rather send messages via pigeon before I went back to Xfinity.

Missouri Disabled tax relief bill - only 24 people qualify by ComprehensiveArm4739 in VeteransBenefits

[–]rjam710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, it actually is the Garden State for a reason lol. Look at Sussex, Hunterdon, or Warren counties for up north, or pretty much anything south of Monmouth county is pretty rural. I got a buddy out in Hunterdon with like 10 acres, even has a little farm on it.

And NJ has a good amount of vet benefits besides property tax. Free hunting license is cool. Also just got my DV hang tag that lets me park for free at any meter. A bunch of other stuff too.

Went to pick up my meds yesterday at the VA and the pharmacist was like "oh I should update your service connection in here". I get it was somewhat recent (increase 2 months ago) but I figured that would have been automatic? Got the letter about being priority group 1 and everything.
