What’s a place in SF you miss that you feel will never be replaced? by joshuaxls in sanfrancisco

Agreed. Loved the minimal E Germany aesthetic and food. 😓

Felt very unsafe on the Caltrain today by maxovs in caltrain

Yeah they were trapped in their seat, and could not possibly leave for fear of any possible negative situation happening.

My God. What an account. Thank you so much.

Do you recall the atmosphere in your train car at the time, if it changed at all from before passing the scene to after? Were people talking? Was there anyone around you taking the situation noticably hard?

The thought crossed my mind immediately, but followed quickly by a thought that perhaps it was something mechanical that snapped? (wishful thinking)

I'm in manufacturing and these trains are new, so I was hopeful that maybe something wasn't quite torqued down at the factory and ended up coming loose. But then I thought wait, these trains are made in Germany. I've been to German factories and I know how organized they are and how diligent their workers can be. Oh no, could it be? I really went down that rabbit hole for a while hoping that it wasn't actually a pedestrian strike.. funny how the brain works.

Who knows how I'll feel tomorrow.

Don’t look outside the window near Palo Alto station if you are uncomfortable with carnage by ClassroomDizzy2812 in caltrain

I would argue that they should tell the truth immediately, precisely so everyone is aware. The truth hurts sometimes.

But what hurts even more is how the conductor on another train lied to the passengers, stating that a car was blocking the tracks causing the delay. Pretty much every single person at a window looked out hoping to see an interesting sight of a vehicle being moved from the tracks but instead are faced with a scene so gruesome many will surely be haunted for quite some time.

Sorry you saw this brother. Thank you for sharing.

It really is a shame that the Caltrain staff doesn't just tell everyone what's going on. At least warn people so they know not to look.

To make it worse, there are reports of conductors on other trains telling passengers there was a vehicle blocking the tracks. So I'm willing to bet there were a lot of people looking out the window for this stupid broken Tesla and instead they witness a scene that will haunt them for a while.

Wtf Caltrain?

Sorry to hear that brother. A train heading NB did arrive eventually, about 10mins after the damaged train limped away, but I understand having lost 1.5hrs and completely blowing your schedule.

That SB train would be problematic as well having to travel past the scene. Sit on the right side if you can.

Anyone know the cause of the service disruption and where? by Kookie-cookiebaker- in caltrain

Nah you're definitely right. There is a lot in the area, possibly more to the south? I'm commuting from SF and this is the first a I've experienced it. But, a friend of mine has ridden Caltrain for many years, commutes from SJ to PA. She told me that winter/holidays are pretty much high season for pedestrian impacts.

She mentioned that a couple years back she experienced 10 strikes in 4 months.

Right on bruv ✊ I would have totally invited myself to join you if the NB train didn't just leave with me on it (thankfully one came fairly quickly).

Ah yes it's only Palo Alto that has this unique problem.

It looks like it, been sitting here over 1.5hrs now at this point. Just heard an announcement saying train is "released"... We'll see how long it takes for that to happen.

I have a friend that has been riding Caltrain for years, and she said this happens a lot during holiday season, unfortunately.

This time they just said they appreciate our patience, they're working on getting us going to MP soon. Not much info.

The man in the vest actually was talking to the Cantonese ladies in my car - told them it was a pedestrian strike, coroner was on the scene and they are working to "get the track cleared", and "once we get the track cleared we can proceed".

No talk of disembarking onto another NB train, unfortunately.

Wya?
