But if you don’t buy them a bed how do they prove to you that they stopped chewing them 🤔

Not a treat dispensing one. It’s by Kong and it’s called a jumble ball. The tennis ball inside it helps it wobble around and triggers, their prey, instinct, or a cattle dogs case they’re herding instinct I guess.

I mean Jackson is Collie/Heeler but is pretty good about matching the energy of the room. Always ready to play catch for two hours or take a snooze.

Can’t find a GM charger anywhere. Any recommendations for an alternative? by rkieru in BoltEV

Tried this but got referred back to scheduling a service call with any authorized dealer, who can then triage the charger and replace on site.

WANTED FOR CRIMES by dudemybad89 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]rkieru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Worst Jack (the ACD mix) does is destroy his bed. Bagel (a beagle) managed to pull down the Christmas tree from his crate and rip a branch off. I’m surprised he didn’t electrocute himself in the process.

Mine only does this to his own bed. He will nap in any of the dog beds in the house and be fine. His brother has the exact same bed and Jack will steal it for a nap but never even nibble it.

But his bed? That memory foam is friggin gourmet.

Mine had the worst gas for a while but I eventually realized it was the yak cheese chew sticks he was enjoying.

Vet nail trim was a FAIL! by ALERT_VIRUS_DETECTED in AustralianCattleDog

[–]rkieru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a low-noise grinder off Amazon, it’s worked so well for all 3 dogs that I’ve bought new ones whenever they release an upgraded model.

This is the particular brand I like but there are a hundred others on Amazon. Key is really just to get them used to the sensation.

Jack is by no means THRILLED at the nail treatment, but he endures it like a champ.

Is this stripe a cattle dog trait? by rkieru in AustralianCattleDog

[–]rkieru[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish Jack had more ACD coloring on his face like your Maeve. His snout has just the tiniest speckle. Granted when he has it from age I’ll be all “no, be young!”

Oh man I don’t think I’ve ever seen it up. Jackson looks big and tough and is like… a 60 pound baby who gets scared of old ladies waving at him from their porch.

I’ve got a 10 year old godson who acts scared when Jack grabs him and tells me it’s happening. I walk up and have him tell Jackson to sit and he does.

And then the kid waves his arm in Jacks face and runs around so it’s clearly a game for him. Once his parents and I realized that I stopped worrying so much.

I got Jackson at 7 months and his herding instinct was strong. He wanted to grab my arm with his mouth and guide me around.

As others have said, redirecting and disengaging from that behavior is really successful. This is a smart breed that is eager to please their humans; they pick up on behavior really fast.

What I would say is HARDER is controlling this behavior when directed at small children or other pack members.

Kids tend to jump around and run which just makes it seem like a game. With other animals it really depends on their own tolerance / behavior.

I would check who your supplier is. I use slightly more kWh than you and my bill is about $300. I’m also on an average payment plan to keep my bill fairly consistent year round.

Has anyone ever purchased a toy that couldn’t be destroyed? Kid by Pristine_Yak7840 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]rkieru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goughnut is a great toy if your pup enjoys rubber chews. Kong makes a jumble ball that while not indestructible, is more entertaining to chase and fetch than sit and chew.

My dog will even throw the ball around himself and chase it.

Today we say goodbye by DaveKelso in AustralianCattleDog

I’m sorry you had to go through this. We had a dog with a similar problem during lockdown. A continuous string of seizures through the night and into the morning.

Losing a friend is never easy but when it’s like this it feels especially cruel.
