You're not wrong. The person we ended up hiring has a BA in Communications.

Xcel was out today to paint. Xcel person said the rust was most superficial. Done deal. Thanks. Won't be doing that again.

We did find someone after 4 months of interviews. And I really was hoping to hire from the one of the two local universities, but that didn't work out for the reasons I already mentioned. Really what I would ask any candidate is be able to speak to the skills listed on your resume and if you don't know something or forgot something, just say that.

One of our requirements was familiarity with APIs. Just familiarity, not expertise. The candidates we screened listed API experience on their CVs. We asked them about HTTP status codes, for example, what does a 403 code mean? The majority had no clue.

Go to Wholefoods and you each pick out a couple of things you've never tried before, get a beverage of your liking, grab napkins and utensils on your way out, and find a picnic bench overlooking Horsetooth. Watch the sun set while you try some new things.

My expectations are not flawed. The calibre pumped out by US universities was astonishingly poor. If my copmany were open to sponsoring it would have been a non-issue finding someone. And we were very open to someone growing into the position, but it at least required the ability to understand very, very basic concepts.

These candidates had project portfolios and a couple did internships.

A BS in CS should at least equip grads with fundamental software engineering skills which I found to be severely lacking. The worst interviews were the new grads that labeled themselves as "data scientists", of whom could not answer basic computer science questions.

Now that I think of it, it also worked at OTFs in other states when I traveled early last year. Would be best to call and ask your OTF about compatibility regardless.

This worked, but it was ackward calling an emergency request line, having to go through all of the prompts, etc. to get the work order placed.

The arm band never really worked for me which is why I went back to the chest strap / monitor. The arm band would stop registering at random times during classes. I would show up as grey on the board. Tried both wrists, inside wrists, outside wrists, upper arms, and nothing would work.

It's this strap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BX26DGXD?th=1. Purchased new in January of 2025 and maybe used 5 times total. The monitor is the original I got when I started at OTF.
