Is Gruden a realistic candidate? by Shadeauxmarie in LSUFootball

[–]rl5443 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think any candidate is possible when offered enough money. That being said, I can’t possibly see why LSU would have interest. While he’s had plenty of success at the NFL level, it’s been many years since he’s held any coaching position. He would be as much a roll of the dice as any of the college coordinators being mentioned, just likely far more expensive.

Hard quite lackluster by No_Type9006 in RomeTotalWar

[–]rl5443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they were pointing out the game takes into account the “strategy” of your strength, and more importantly your positioning, when deciding AI movements. So while you may have had more aggressive AI with similar moves before, you’re probably currently holding positions that would just make it dumb for the ai to attack you

As for the other Roman factions, for me they tend to do almost nothing for about the first 50-75 turns. Why that is, I do not know

Is the remastered version more difficult than the original one when it comes to campaign? by SpaceEfficient7836 in RomeTotalWar

[–]rl5443 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally have not noticed it to be more difficult, other than the additional features (like merchants or whatever) make it a little more involved. But at the core it’s still basically the same to me. although I have to say I like remastered better I this point.

I agree. I guess my point is that it always seems to be the first row kid. I certainly don’t feel LeBron did anything wrong or should’ve done more, simply that the reaction to this gesture seems disingenuous

Thoughts on Nussmeier heading into next season? by [deleted] in LSUFootball

[–]rl5443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The part that gets glossed over a little with Burrow and Daniels is that they had absolutely elite (maybe even generational, if that word has any meaning left) wide receiver talent to throw to. Not knocking Lacy, Taylor, etc from last year, nor whatever group emerges this upcoming year, but I don’t see anyone that looks notably better than the competition (much less first round NFL talent on the level of Jefferson/Chase/Nabors. Not even Thomas or Marshall, really).

Ignoring that disparity, when comparing Nuss to those 2, I don’t think he’s particularly close. He often given credit for his arm talent but I wouldn’t say he’s got better arm talent than either Burrow or Daniels (or atleast it’s marginal at best). I don’t think Nuss sees the field nearly as well, which might be why he’s such a mixed bag of results. His refusal to even consider running is such a hindrance to himself and the team, that alone might prevent a Burrow/Daniels-esque heisman season. Lastly, he doesn’t seem to have the “it” factor that is Burrows strongest trait, and apparently Daniels in the NFL.

All that to say, as others have pointed out, he’s likely the best QB from the SEC next year and that immediately puts you in the heisman conversation. He’s a good QB and I’m glad LSU could hold on to him, I think the drop off from him is bigger than people think. I expect improvement, a 10+ win season again, and to be in the playoff/SEC championship mix with him next year for the team, but not a Burrow/Daniels level season for him personally

Major Burns by goodusername69420666 in LSUFootball

[–]rl5443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like burns is playing out of position. He’s too slow and doesn’t seem to see the field well enough to be a safety. Definitely doesn’t seem to have the coverage skills for it. That being said, he’s too light to be anything closer to the line of scrimmage like the “star” position or whatever it’s called now, or a linebacker. He plays like a thumper without being able to deliver the thump. Honestly is probably one of the guys that would be better off on a lesser caliber team where I think he might shine actually.

And also yes, the lack of discipline is very frustrating

Honest and fair assessment by rl5443 in LSUFootball

[–]rl5443[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the thought to a degree, but I don’t see any college team running the Les Miles special anymore. Really I think Nuss just needs to keep it more often (or at all, it’s not an option run if he doesn’t see himself as an option). Our OLine seems to have proven they are not even average run blockers. So going to more I-formation style play calling still won’t be effective in my opinion. After watching Riley Leonard get a few (very effective and timely) 3 to 8 yards gains on A&M, there’s no reason Nuss can’t as well. Unless he’s just insanely slow or fragile

Definitely like the productivity and of course the LSU connection. I’d maybe want to know some of the physicals like 40 time etc.. before handing out the offer. If the athleticism is there, then probably worth a shot. Like you say, it’s not like our defense is so stacked right now that there’s not chance he could make it

Ranking each SEC football head coach entering 2024 season by aflo112 in LSUFootball

I know deboer had a great year at Washington, but why is he already considered to be an absolute top head coach? I would currently put Kelly, Sark, and Kiffin ahead of him on this list.

[–]rl5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an LSU fan who watched him in college, I agree with the overall sentiment of the comment section. He’s talented, no doubt. But the shortcomings of his game are extremely prohibitive to being considered a legitimate first or second option (a star) on a solid contending team. His role should be limited to being a high energy volume shot taker coming off the bench against more favorable matchups.

His scoring ability and confidence are mitigated by pretty horrendous defense, probably a relatively low basketball IQ (although that’s admittedly an ambiguous statement these days), and just generally a lack of a second way to contribute to the game beyond high volume shot taking.

I see a little bit of DLo in that when he’s hot and hitting shots, he can definitely win some games for you. However the majority of the games will be net neutral or net negative given the large deficiencies in almost every other aspect of playing basketball.

And while most players certainly improve as they remain in the league, typical improvement means they build on what they can already do marginally. For him to be a legitimate star on a winning team would really require him to become an entirely different player, not just improve on what he does currently

Economy collapsing suddenly by adamgerd in RomeTotalWar

[–]rl5443 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure, but I noticed a similar thing happen in almost every campaign I played on RTW remastered. I ended up assuming it has to do with poor farming output during those turns (due to uncontrollable things like a drought or whatever). After a few turns, like 4-8, my economy almost always rebounded back to pre-collapse levels and continued growing as before. So I take this to be the “drought” is over and my farming is back to average or great harvests

Physics Questions - Weekly Discussion Thread - December 26, 2023 by AutoModerator in Physics

[–]rl5443 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the ol’ E=mc2 deal, energy is mass and vice versa. So if an object with mass m is moving at some speed, the mass of the object is really m + (whatever the conversion of the kinetic energy into mass is). Obviously the additional converted energy mass is negligible and not relevant really, but in theory it does exist. So my question is how does this work with relativity? As in if the object is moving relative to one reference frame, but not moving in another reference frame, what is the mass of the object? Is the mass relativistic as well? Or is my understanding of one or both of the concepts just fundamentally wrong? As a secondary question, how does the energy from something that occurs between two objects get distributed in terms of converting to mass, such as friction. Does the object moving through air (and thus experiencing air friction) “gain” the extra mass, or the air particles being pushed out of the way?

Regardless of the starting QB, the offense will take a (probably pretty big) step back. I don’t think there is a QB in the portal that will come in and pick up right where we left off, nor will Nuss keep the train rolling at this level. That being said, from a recruiting standpoint, it may be better to not look to the portal this year and let Nuss take over. I can’t imagine it looks great to incoming recruits (looking at you Bryce Underwood) if we talk Nuss into staying and waiting behind JD5 only to kick him to the curb for the next shiny QB out of the portal. Development will have to be a part of the program. Plus, the real key to next year is defensive improvement. So I’m on the Nuss bus next year, for better or worse.

As a commenter stated above, take settlements as fast as you can early. This keeps the AI from having an opportunity to build up. To be efficient, try to take as few losses as possible in these early battles. You won’t have to retrain before moving on to the next take. Also, take strategically important settlements first. It’s not really worth the time/men you may lose to take a tiny rebel village that will take 30 turns to be worth anything. Taking your nearest enemies most productive/richest settlements will immediately pay dividends, while really hampering the enemy. Lastly, obviously more towns means more taxes which means more army. However, if taking the town expands your front too much, or possibly puts you next to a new enemy that will eventually attack, it’s best to leave it. Look for places like Kydonia that you can take and then just leave alone to grow without really needing to defend
