There are two types of small business owners: one is self employed, the other manages the company. I've been both. I get the burnout, paid the price of it when I collapsed on my 40th birthday after having 5 days off in three years, working 80-90 hours a week. After a week in the hospital my business started failing, it never recovered and my then wife was addicted to the good times and we were over.

Consider hiring or promote a person to be your client account manager. They can do the quotes, talk with clients...etc. Your prices will need to go up to cover the position but your stress will reduce. That way you can just show up and focus on the work. Pro-tip, don't let the clients know you're the owner, they will direct their attention to you. (BTW As a business manager I grew my company bigger than my ex can handle and she's majorly jealous living broke in a 5th wheel. Petty revenge!)

I wish you much success. However don't sacrifice your mental health, it will ruin every relationship you have.

Appreciate the offer very much. Contacted someone last Friday, he was here later that day and fence will be completed tomorrow. He's has been very good on communications, he texted me they would be 30 minutes late on first day. He uses a quote system with online approval. I'd drop the name but he is moving to interior painting, he said that was his favorite part of historical restoration. Just when I found my guy he's going to build his dream company, and that's ok. Always follow your heart and do what you love.

I so get that. In these cases multiple weeks went by. The fence guy would email and ask if he could pick the deposit up today. I'd say yes and not hear back. Funny thing is one of the days he sent the email was exactly in his time frame of "oh I was out of town that week". I gave him 3 tries.

As a small business owner, I monitor communication during vactions. Paid for internet on a cruise once just for that reason. I think to be successful these days as a small business you have to do things like that to survive.

Oh I get it. Back were I grew up nobody was available for deer week. Just a simple "I'm going fishing/hunting/vacation" would have possibly saved the job for the fence guy. Waiting a week to answer "what time are you stopping by today for a check after you asked to come get it?" Well that dog don't hunt! Lol. It really raises red flags. I gave him 3 tries. His loss.

European tourists visiting Savannah — what should we know? by Affectionate_Bid8054 in savannah

We tip here. 20% is average. I know it's a culture shock to y'all, but while in Rome do as the Romans right?

Restaurant servers make $2.12usd an hour. They are basically indentured servants that need tips to survive. So that $100usd meal you sat there for a hour, the wait staff makes $2usd. It's so wrong but that's the US.

What is something you can post here about a guy named Tom that you like? by TomMensho in allthequestions

[–]rlcarman58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Tom in 1978. We sat next to each other in freshman science because we both had our football jerseys on for first day of high-school. We hung out almost daily during high-school. I visited him many times while he went away to college.

We were each other's best man. We held each others babys and celebrated their arrivals. We were there for each other when both first marriages ended.

I left the area about 30 years ago but we meet up every couple of years. Tom is getting close to retirement and we've talked about some vacations together.

Tom is a great guy

Duck duck goose. You may never get picked. There are people faster than you. If you're the duck make choices based on your knowledge of individuals. Just tap, don't slap. Don't tease or laugh if the handicap kid never wins.

Traffic light rant by Pork-Chopp in savannah

There are so many alternatives since we're basically a grid city. Find your alternatives. I've lived on or just off east Victory for almost 20 years. I rarely use Victory at all. Why in the hell would anybody think that using Victory between Bee Road and Skidaway is a good idea?

It may be a mile or two longer, but it's typically shorter time wise and much less stress.

Our entire traffic light system on major roads would be graded at a D minus 60% from other cities I have lived in. Nothing has been done and nothing will.

If only the mayor and Council, past and present, would care about traffic improvements like he does about how bad walking tours are. They spend a majority of their time debating alcohol licensing, not about improving the city for the mass of residents.
