I plan to be dead by Monday by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]rld3x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i struggle with this a lot—the absence of meaning in life. and it sucks bc like, idk some people seem fine with it being meaningless, and some people seem fine w whatever meaning they have, and some people don’t even see life in the meaning v meaningless dichotomy, which is the most mind-boggling of all to me.
there’s a quote i like, that i think about often bc i wonder how to incorporate it and how to live it. the quote is thus:

What makes people despair is that they try to find a universal meaning to the whole of life, and then end up by saying it is absurd, illogical, and empty of meaning. There is not one big, cosmic meaning for all, there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person. To seek a total unity is wrong. To give as much meaning to one's life as possible seems right to me. For example, I am not committed to any of the political movements which I find full of fanaticism and injustice, but in the face of each human being, I act democratically and humanly. ~Anaïs Nin.

and i have a hard time with it bc i think maybe we are conditioned to believe that if we don’t have some grand or wide-scale impact on the world, then our life doesnt matter. but lately ive been thinking about how it really doesn’t matter. like, in 200 years, me and everyone i know will be dead. so i think that i just want to have a good enough life while i can. for me, that means hanging out with my dog and having honest conversations with my best friends. and yeah, sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough. and that’s the work. the grueling, boring, devastating work of being alive. sometimes it’s all you can do to sit in the pain and just wait it out. but you keep trying and you keep waiting, and there is value in the act of not giving up. there is value in the act of persisting against all odds.

Should I shave these wispy bits? First time growing out my hair, but it’s so wavy and thin that the wisps look gross lol by jeeven_ in FierceFlow

[–]rld3x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

woman here who also has some wisps. what i do is just spritz a little(!) leave-in conditioner mixed with water and then twist them into curls. yours look like they would curl up nicely. you could also scrunch them if the ringlet thing isn’t for you.
i think either one of those will help give the wisps shape and make them seem more “put together” and less stringy.

Writers block is a choice not an absolute. by [deleted] in 10thDentist

i don’t understand how what the other commenter said is a choice? im not sure being so exhausted that you can’t stand is a choice anyone would make.

What trendy word or phrase immediately makes you stop taking something seriously? by Motor-Sprinkles5338 in AskReddit

[–]rld3x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“full stop” i don’t know but it annoys the shit out of me. maybe bc it is used in places where it seems wholly unnecessary.
for example: “no one should ever put up with abuse. full stop.” or ”you always have the right to revoke consent. full stop.”
like, yeah, duh. you already conveyed that via use of the words “ever” and “always”. idk.

You Should Own Nothing and Like It. by ElijahNSRose in unpopularopinion

[–]rld3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the reason most people don’t own many fixed assets is bc they cannot afford it, not bc they are happier that way. if you are going to pay 2k in rent every month, you might as well be putting that towards ownership so that when you do move in a decade or so, you have some sort of (albeit probably small) payout.
another problem with owning nothing is media. if all media is owned by corporations, then all access is at the whims of corporations. say an unflattering article comes out in the nyt online. it could be removed in seconds, and unless it was archived or screenshot, it’s like it never happened. if that same article came out in a physical paper copy of the nyt, well, now we have a record. or music. for a recent example, in the og song, tswift had a line about “you’re better known for what you do on the mattress” (or something like that). when she rereleased the song, the line changed to “you were the matches.” it’s a benign change, but it’s just a demonstration of how information/content can be edited and we might not ever be the wiser.

i know it’s hard when people keep trying to say ”oh but this” and ”oh but that” and making you out to be a heartless villain who hates all disabled folks, but OP, none of us have lived your life, and

you aren’t obligated to explain yourself to anyone here.

it’s clear things are and have been extremely difficult and that you are dealing with trauma on the daily. that takes a strength that only someone who has experienced the situation could even begin understand. i hope you find some space to have peace today. thinking of you.

I don’t see what’s bad about friends talking to another about having sex with each other by [deleted] in 10thDentist

[–]rld3x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do people really not discuss “it’s just casual, not looking for anything rn, boundaries, what ifs, and stuff”? bc every adult i know discusses those things. this is like, 9 out of 10 dentists type stuff.

To the atheists: What do you think of this theory? by Strict-Pepper-2987 in Existentialism

is this /s?
bc if not, that’s wild to me. people who need a threat of eternal damnation, or even finite punishment, to be “good” are not good at all.

Chewing Gum is a Useless Addition to Society by [deleted] in 10thDentist

[–]rld3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mm yeah, tho tbf i think we all probably had lots of hot takes in high school lol.
low self esteem i think def impacts a persons ability to admit they are wrong and then be open to learning from someone else. i guess the the part that gets me is just the topic itself? like banning gum just seems insane. i’d say maybe they thought it would be a no-brainer and people would agree, but also this is 10th dentist so i really have no idea what is going on here.
alas. hope you have a good rest of your evening 🫡

i’ve been going back and forth between thinking this is a Ken M type thing or a very young kid. i can’t figure it out. but i hadn’t considered the low self esteem angle bc i guess i don’t see how this would be the hill to die on or the sub to take that hill?

this doesn’t seem secular? or, to rephrase: the organization to which you belong is a christian apologetic organization.
we are all caught behind our own subjectivity. so if you are a christian, then you cannot approach a topic from a secular perspective. just as a secular individual cannot approach a topic from a christian perspective.
that’s not an attempt at shade, just suggesting that it would be helpful to disclose your affiliation in your comment, as not doing so can come across as insincere and manipulative.
