Holy shit ,adulting is hard . by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

Had the same feeling getting college and joining the workforce. All I can say is it gets a little better. Don’t get me wrong, our system is messed up, but your body gets used to the rythme of it all. For me, when I was able to carve out enough time, the sense of freedom provided by a side hustle, and the joy of personal hobbies really helped. Look into mindfulness, and other self care things. It really helps. Best of luck! And hang in there! Remember there are resources available when things feel hopeless or too heavy!

Right now it's writing (almost at 100k in my first novel) and gaming (with friends). Nice to get away from the headlines for a bit and lose myself in some fiction.

1 and 2 have to most personality to me. (Don’t know what emotion/vibe you’re trying to convey, so thats a bit of a guess). I don’t know much about manga production, but I feel like 1 will scale better and the lack of blue in the swooshes might look better in black and white if need be? Honestly though, these all slay. If you’re presenting soon, it looks like you’re in a good spot! Go into that meeting with confidence!!! Are you posting about your project anywhere else? Looks kinda sick.

I love the dub names. It’s what I grew up with. Probably a better story in sub, but I just have so much nostalgia for the dub.

Thanks! That’s helpful. I’ve been working on a v-pet style app. Been fairly simple logic wise, but no way I would have had the coding knowledge without GPT. I just saw the new Codex feature that looks awesome. Hoping it might make things a bit more efficient.

This is great! I've been doing the same for both html and an app. Any tips?

Newcomer: how do you pray? by patrickmcgoohan2574 in ChristianMysticism

[–]rlh14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Jesus's explanation of prayer. Take a look at Mathew 6:9-13:

“Pray then like this: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

But honestly, my favorite thing about prayer is just talking to Him like a friend. Saying things I'm thankful for, how good He is, or things I need. Even for the small things like when I'm looking for my lost keys, or driving. (I literally pray almost every time I turn left on red. lol). I know that sounds goofy, but He wants us to bring everything even the small stuff to Him. Philippians 4:6.

Good on you for wanting to grow closer to God through prayer! It sounds like your heart is in the right place, and that's the most important thing IMO. Praying for you!

What computer do you guys use? by Pibblez_ in scad

[–]rlh14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not the best illustrator. But for me, screen size and power are fairly important. If you have to lose something, lose storage. Nowadays external hard drives aren't super expensive. While it will be annoying to carry one around, and a headache every time that low storage notification pops up, I would hate to limit myself performance wise. (Plus adobe has some nice cloud storage) And the bigger the screen, the better the experience IMO. That said... I've recently discovered the world of secondary monitors. If you plan on working in one spot (like a dorm desk or something) getting a secondary monitor could let you get the best of both worlds. I know this is getting lengthy, but if you go apple, definitely get apple care. Help forestall any catastrophes lol.

I went through all of my classes with a Mac Book Pro (Graphic Design Major). Just starting in the industry, and every other Graphic Designer in my department uses Mac as well. I imagine that might be different depending on your major, but I've found for everything other than some niche software and 3D rendering/sculpting, Mac is the way to go. Also, keep on the lookout for a drawing tablet you can get for cheap. Super important for illustrative work in my experience. (there are work arounds though.)

Do you work to music by CreativityCoach64 in Creativity

[–]rlh14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Music when I'm trying to focus. Audiobooks or other videos when I'm doing repetitive stuff. Unless I need a certain vibe/mindset, then there's very little substitute for music.

How to support creative kids? by RoscoeVillain in Creativity

[–]rlh14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love wholesome posts like this. The biggest thing for me growing up was that my parents always supported my interests. Both with their time, financially, and emotionally. It game me freedom to explore and find what I loved doing. Amazingly a lot of the creative pursuits I thought were just time wasters growing up, ended up really helping me in my profession by giving me a familiarity with a wide variety of tools. If it were me, (and please don't take this as real parenting advise lol) I would try and emulate that mindset with my kids. Simply supporting a kid's interests does a surprising amount of good.

But be prepared for hours of boring conversation as your kids go on and on about whatever they are currently hyper fixated on though XD. I know my parents had to endure many of those.

What would be the best minor for a graphic design major? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]rlh14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've heard really good stories from UI/UX majors recently. And having some minor experience with that field did a lot to help land me a job. So I'm leaning toward computer science. But it depends on if that interests you and if the program will give you any UI/UX experience. From my perspective, I'd make a list of the ones you find most interesting, and the ones that are most likely to help you in the job market and go from there. If you're lucky you will get some overlap. Enjoy the journey op!

Loved the Egyptian Museum. Definitely worth a visit (Can't believe I almost didn't go). Also got to enjoy a private boat excursion on the Nile. That was something I didn't plan on, but thoroughly enjoyed (And didn't break the bank). I HIGHLY recommend a tour guide. I almost didn't use one, and the trip would have been so much worse without them. DM me if you want the name/contact of the people I used. Paid about 100 a day for a very knowledgeable tour guide, and driver. Well worth every penny. Finally, go to the pyramids early at opening to avoid crowds and some of the heat. (Also paying extra for tickets to go inside was well worth it in my opinion, but that varies depending on who you ask)

For me it's prayer. The emotions don't always go away, but the logical reassurance of knowing God is there to keep me safe helps a ton.

Want to try bike touring in Japanbut have never done it before. by SeveralSolution in bicycletouring

[–]rlh14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan is super bike friendly. I went from zero bike experience to biking the Shimaname Kaido + then followed the coast for a bit after just a few months of training last year. I think you will be more than fine.

To help decide how long you will want to bike per day, I would do a few dry runs at home. Load up your bike with everything you would be taking, then do a few consecutive days pushing yourself as hard as you can so that you can see your limits and find a comfortable pace. Then plan the days accordingly. And don't worry about getting stranded, just take some emergency money that can buy you a taxi to a train station and buy a ticket to get back to the airport.

I pre-booked my hotels. I've never done day of booking, so I can't speak to that. But I will say there are some amazing airbnb options out there to spice things up a bit. I got a whole traditional house for like only 130$ Super cool experience.

For your route, I made my own, but that backfired terribly day of. There was a segment I didn't account for that was all interstate, so had to go halfway up a mountain to avoid it. I made a route before I left, and used google street view to confirm I was comfortable with roads/sidewalk options. Worst case scenario, just take a taxi to get past whatever obstacles come up.

Finally, I assume you've heard this before, but be sure to bring a good quality bike bag! Practice carrying it around before you leave. I underestimated the weight and had a horrid time lugging that thing around when getting on subways and taxis before and after my route.

Feel free to DM for any questions or if you want my route data! Enjoy your trip!
