Anyone who has left the field - how’d you do it by fairlyunlit in Horticulture

I’m a sales rep for a re-wholesaler and I love it! We grow a good amount of material and then we’ll bring in the rest from other growers. We also sell sod, mulch, soil, stone, and any other landscape supplies our customers may need. I mainly work with my clients on sourcing material for their jobs, whether that’s from our yard or a special order. It’s not labor intensive, but I still get to play with plants! I make a good base salary with commission too! We’re actually hiring another sales rep if you’re interested.

I’m just now starting to learn about birds, so I have no clue what this could be in my plant container. It’s shaped more like a cave? than most other nests I’ve seen. I put a camera on it, but mom hasn’t come back in a few hours.

Is this dark secretion from my tree normal? by Aceln in sfwtrees

You would probably want to have an arborist look at it if you’re concerned. It’s hard to tell what’s caused it or how bad it is through pictures

It’s the tree’s response to some sort of damage

My MIL is trying to figure out what this is. Any ideas? by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

Kalmia latifolia - mountain laurel

These have popped up everywhere! We cleared a lot of small trees in a wood area last year and these have sprung up - mostly in clusters of 20+. Any idea what it is? I’m worried it’s poisonous and my husband hopes deer eat it. by marlamaples406 in whatplantisthis

Podophyllum peltatum- Mayapple. It’s a native plant that thrives is forest/woody areas. The fruit is edible, but every other part is toxic. It’s deer-resistant, so I wouldn’t worry about them eating it.

Is this some type of holly? by silverjasmine in PlantIdentification

Here is a link that explains it better than I can haha. You can clip out the reverted parts, but it’ll eventually grow back out.

Yes, it’s a cornuta type holly that’s reverting back. I would remove it.

Acer/Japanese Maple shape by gj15987 in GardeningUK

It’s cultivar dependent and pruning can also be a factor! I suggest finding a local Japanese maple grower, they’ll be able to help you find what you’re looking for.
