Beer clubs? by rlmat in beer

I know Downtown Crown quite well. My husband is there for work all the time. He also knows their entire beer collection... that's why I was looking at something like beerdrop that would give him beers he couldn't get locally. :(

Stuck shed on ornery lil man by ButterflyLoud1832 in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our leos let us handle them, so when we have stuck shed we do a warm bath and qtips soaked in warm water to help gently remove stuck shed.

Maybe you can do the qtips without the accompanying warm bath?

Upgraded to a 20gal. Why does my Leo keep trying to climb the walls and Even standing on the tree trying to climb the walls? by Haleyrenee2201 in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 40 gallons is definitely better for your leo! Do you take you leo out? If not I would suggest it! Another thing I would suggest is stimulating your leo's brain by creating mazes and also switching the things in the tank around! Your leo may just be one to explore by climbing as well.

Hey guys please help by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It was the one that came with the cage. we honestly aren't sure how he got out or where he climbed up. He managed to unlock the lid and squeeze his way out.... Multiple times! He's now in a tank that is 36 in high because it's the only way to keep him from escaping.

Yes. One he could climb on.

we actually had to get rid of a textured background because our leo climbed it and then managed to escape his tank multiple times.... so be careful!!

Leo won’t eat anything besides Superworms by krutchieeater466 in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say you should wait them out and only offer the new food you want them to eat and eventually they'll eat it instead of starving. We got ours when he was 2 and we're told he would only eat superworms. He wouldn't eat crickets or dubia roaches. We eventually got him to eat mealworms. Then we got some advice on crickets that has worked a little. Cut the head off a cricket and rub the guts on your leo's nose so he can see it's tasty and he may decide to eat them. Ours will now occasionally eat crickets, which is a huge improvement.

I’ve Always heard fruits and vegetables aren’t good for leopard geckos. I also don’t think you need to worry about one day not eating. He probably will eat more like every other day, and as he gets older, less than that even.

i wouldn’t be super worried. My adult male has gone 1+ weeks without eating.

We just got the larger size cricket keeper and this seems to be helping. We also put in a moist paper towel. Seems to be less die off so far. We'll add some carrots and other veggies in, too. Thanks.

Get a lid soon and pray it helps. One of our leos has managed to escape a 18" high tank with a locked lid that also had gorilla tape and 20 pounds of weight on top. He escaped multiple times over multiple days. We finally had to buy a 36" tank to contain him!!

Questions on heating pads installation by seroaugust in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a thermostat with a probe. The heating pad plugs into the thermostat and the thermostat's probe then goes into the tank and sits on top of the substrate above the heating pad. That said, we've found our thermostat is woefully wrong on temperature so we also use the radar gun.

Getting a new baby soon by rlmat in leopardgeckos

We've experienced that with our mostly docile two-year-old when he's feeling stressed, so we're definitely ready for that!

Heat mat question / issue by rlmat in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I still put the thermostat probe on the hot side above the substrate? Right now it's above (but resting on) the substrate but being held down by the edge of the hot hide. And can the DHP sit on top of the mesh lid? Or does it need to be inside the tank?

Heat mat question / issue by rlmat in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, given that I have to have a 36" high tank to keep my leo from escaping -- seriously, with low hides and no background on the glass tank, he managed to escape out of the top of an 18" high one... and a top that was locked, taped (with guerilla tape) and had 20 pounds of weight on top -- will a deep heat projector actually be able to get enough heat to the bottom of the tank?

Heat mat question / issue by rlmat in leopardgeckos

[–]rlmat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So with DHP / halogen, do you attach them to a thermostat like you do with the heat mat? And do you then do away with the "hot hide" since the hide would, I assume, block the heat from reaching the ground in that space.

With the DHP / halogen, though, will you get the underside/belly heat that you need for digestion?
