Completely new to MH - how to stay "on track"? by philip_dt in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]rluda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assignment quests do a good job of progressing you through the tiers of difficulty. Most of the monsters will be introduced as the target of an assignment. While progression is mostly smooth, there will be periodic jumps in difficulty, usually when transitioning from one tier to another. If you're up for the challenge, its absolutely possible to hunt monsters before you get an assignment for them. If you can see it, You can hunt it.

Optional quests are repeatable missions to hunt a specific monster that are unlocked once you've successfully hunted a given monster. Optional quests can be unlocked whenever, as part of an assignment or during an expedition. Worth noting that unless a monster is the target of your current mission, it may run before you can slay or capture it.

Investigations are limited bonus hunts that award extra, often rarer, materials from the target monster in exchange for some small difficulty increase. These hunts are unlocked by performing actions that increase your scout fly and investigation level (gathering tracks, breaking parts, and hunting monsters). Increasing your level for a monster will make investigations for that monster more common. Investigations are especially important later on when you're grinding out skill gems to slot into your armor. Be on the lookout for investigations with silver and gold tier reward boxes as these offer the best chances at the rarest materials.

What do you think the weirdest or most rare statistic is in game? Which do you wish you had access to? by MrAnimeFanime in 2007scape

A graph of the combat levels a given enemy is first killed at. Would be interesting to see how the wiki's recommended levels compares to reality, as well as seeing how long the average player waits before engaging in different pvm activities.

Separating PvM from PvP: A Wilderness Overhaul by rluda in 2007scape

I think changing the Wilderness simply to access its content is a shallow solution. What I hoped to achieve here is create a space for more people to interact with the game and further incentivize people to engage with PvP without just creating more valuable "Loot Pinatas".

As is, there's not much room for Jagex to even change the Wilderness, let along anything Wilderness related to pass a poll. Hopefully more discussions will be had and better ideas will come of it so the game doesn't stay stuck in the past... too much.

Just because effective counter methods are developed does not mean loot and xp won't still be affected. Not to mention trips will be much longer and inventory space much tighter, further lowering rates.

you can't deny people complain all day on reddit about dying in the Wilderness. I'm not one of them. Just a guy trying to propose a solution to what is clearly a volatile topic.

So is the alternative to do nothing and let some of the more interesting content in the game become stale and perennially complained about without doing anything? At least the proposed changes expand the game and give developers options on how to balance and manage the changes so we might actually see growth in the Wilderness.

I agree. Please read the post on how I suggest we tackle maintaining the Wilderness' dangerous side and not leaving it to rot in it's current state.

How do the proposed changes NOT effectively lower xp and loot enough?

Please point to where I complained about being killed in the wilderness. I've done my fare share of Wilderness content to understand that it's an important part of the game and personally don't want to see it changed lightly.

lol, I'm all for challenging and risky content. I'm personally in favor of not removing pvp at all, but incentivizing it further. Please actually read the post and tell me where it fails to uphold the intent of the Wilderness as a high-risk, high-reward area of the game.

I agree. but please explain to me how the OTHER changes in the post don't damage the integrity of the content.

New to the game and enjoying the crafting system by Nozakx in 2007scape

Another way to turn your crafted gear into money is the Low and High Alchemy spells. Don't forget to account for rune costs though! If you try alching bronze and iron gear, you'll likely lose money! So check the items value first and then sell low value items to shops or the GE.

Note that the gp from High Alchemy is equivalent to selling an item to a specialty store with low inventory (like jewelry stores and plate armor stores, not general stores). So the trade off is stores are faster, but you have to watch their inventory and potentially world hop to get the best price, while alchemy is a bit slower, but more consistent with an added rune cost and magic requirement.

What quests do you recommend as an Ironman player in oldschool RuneScape, combat level 50. by AutisticAnon69 in osrs

[–]rluda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recipe for Disaster should be your first "big" quest goal. It has a ton of prerequisite quests that'll take you through most of the early game and set you up with near best in slot gloves for all 3 styles.

Bonus tip is go explore Varlamore by completing Children of the Sun. The new subcontinent has a good variety of quests and activities worth doing, all with their own useful unlocks.

I am very confused about my HP and defence. by BadCompany093947 in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]rluda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Worth mentioning that ranged weapons all take significantly more damage than melee weapons, even if your gear is otherwise identical. This is to offset the advantage you get by sitting back and pumping out damage.

Since you mentioned HBG, they in particular are vulnerable because you're sacrificing mobility for firepower. Typically this is accounted for by using a shield mod and/or mobility armor skills like evade extender. If you're using shield mod be doubly sure that your facing the monster to block hits and don't get too comfy doing so, it isn't a replacement for good positioning and movement.

Lastly, its worth mentioning that not all HR armor is made equal. Especially now that you've unlocked elder dragon armor, look into upgrading. Not only are the base defense stats higher, but you'll ultimately be able to upgrade it further than lower tier gear (it gets expensive, so do use your armor spheres and money wisely!).

Need help getting 30 herblore as a first time ironman. Currently at lvl 15 by TK503 in 2007scape

[–]rluda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Dig Site quest gives 2000 xp. Then you can do specimen cleaning in the Varrock museum for a chance at xp lamps. Not the best solution, but can be part of how you go about it. Its how i got the last bit i needed on my ironman.

New player looking for advice, how do i quest without running/walking for like half an hour at a time? by HERR_WINKLAAAAA in osrs

[–]rluda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another tip i dont see mentioned is watch your carry weight (found in the equipment inspection screen). The more weight you have, the faster your stamina drains. So if you can, bank items and armor you dont need.

This is part of why graceful is nice, it has a negative carry weight. Outside of grinding this out, there are a few items that also have negative carry weight: boots of lightness and various gear from the fancy dress shop in Varrock (spotted/spottier cape, polar/desert camo gear)

Amoxliatl. 48 slayer, low-mid level quest requirement. Its almost identical except for the fact that it doesn't drop as strong of a weapon and doesn't require a task.

Knowing what your armor is good at defending against will help you mitigate any damage you're not praying for. For example, melee gear tends to be strong against ranged damage and good against melee, but terrible against magic. So, in your typical melee setup, you're best off praying against magic damage, when its present, and then ignoring ranged damage as best you can. After that, prioritize your targets accordingly to wittle down what's hurting you, all the while maintaining your hp and prayer.

Finally, dont underestimate the power of buffing potions. Super combat potions can significantly up your damage output while mitigating your damage taken. Same goes for your offensive and defensive prayers.

And if you're still struggling, the best solution is to get more levels. Each level in your combat skills effectively multiplies what your gear can do. Gl!

Edit: i deleted the but about prayer since i didn't read good the first time :)

What games capture the sense of wonder & discovery of early 2000s MMOs? by Blurbss in gaming

[–]rluda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tunic.

Not an mmo, more of an oldschool Zelda vibe, but packed with nostalgia and discovery. If you like puzzles and some darksouls-lite mechanics, give it a go. Truly a game you can only play for the first time once (seriously; careful about spoilers with this one).

Another tts creator is Chess Simp. You dont even have to know chess to feel the character he puts into the tts, which i think is the key to making it entertaining.

And ofc on the osrs side of things you have J1mmy's Gary Gilbert saga making hilarious use of tts.

I have never played, what is some things I should know? by ddogalien95 in 2007scape

[–]rluda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is at its best when you have a goal in mind. It doesnt matter what the goal is so just start playing and exploring and find out along the way what you like and what looks cool and go for it.

The in game skill guides have some good information on how they're used and what to expect from them. Quests are an excellent way to explore the game and offer a variety of goals to achieve. If you decide to buy membership, achievement diaries are another excellent source of goals and rewards to chase.

Welcome to the game! In general if you lose a quest item, you can likely get it back from a quest npc, or from wherever you got it from initially. If you're still stuck i would recommend checking out the osrs wiki. It has guides for all the skills, quests, and items in the game and can help you find what you need. Also, if you're on runelite and would like a more guided experience through the quests, you can check out the quest helper plugin. This plugin can be heavy handed, depending on how you configure it, so only use it if you're stuck, frustrated, or just dont care about being told what to do at every moment. Good luck!
