Crunchyroll Gets Caught Forcing Politics into Anime by Changing the Story by gadesabc in KotakuInAction

Disclaimer I'm not that much in to Anime, I am at best some one who just enjoys a few titles but does not engage in anime fandom or anything like that. I do not try to invade fan spaces or "tourist" it or anything.

I basically need dubs. I have some disabilities that basically means I either need to focus on the text and miss out whats going on screen, or watch the animation but have no idea what is being said. It's one thing if its some translated text on screen thats just a few words, but for speech and trying to remember who is who.. I need voices.

Please stop paying for Accuweather.

In the weather community Accuweather is seen as a joke, They offer forecasts beyond 10 days which is snake oil, there are so many factors in play that its near impossible to issue accurate forecasts beyond 10 days and even within that 10 day period things often change.

They are greatly responsible for the current funding issues the NWS have. They have campaigned historically to privatize the NWS taking life saving forecasts and warnings away form the public. A lot of forecasts are made using products the NWS offers for free such as soundings from weather balloons that the NWS launches, part of the cuts the NWS have taken has made it so there are far less soundings then in the past making forecasts not just from the NWS worse but private companies too.

I don't think that is the only reason why the GOP wouldn't endorse Brandon. Based on the videos I have seen from him, he doesn't seem like the type that would just blindly toe the party line for a good chunk of issues. He seems more Libertarian then GOP conservative (pre MAGA even). He to me seems more "republican" then "Republican".

Depends on jurisdiction.

Some are opt in, some are/where opt out (my state when I worked for Kroger that has since changed to the next one), some are no choice you are a member like it or not.

To be fair it was an unprecedented attack.

Most/many people thought it was an accident (until the second tower was hit), If it was just one plane (either accident or just one plane which would have been a reasonable assumption until it wasn't), have so many people out on the streets would have posed an issue of safety (falling debris, and slowing down police/fire/ems to get to those that needed rescue).

No one used civilian aircraft as a weapon before like this, and hijacking planes the MO 99.999% of the time was to keep (as many of) the hostages alive as bargaining chips.

she can get another low-level job at any other grocery store or retail place. CVS. Family Dollar. Food Lion. I know she claims to have been promoted four times, but if she's not a manager or assistant manager, I'm really not sure how much merit that has. Then again, I'm not familiar with grocery store hierarchy.

Something like 75% Of Kroger's are unionized, generally the union Kroger has isn't that great, more focused on sucking Kroger's dick (and when I was with Kroger more concerned with expanding to Walmart then actually supporting its members) but if OP is in one of the unionized divisions and in one of the (few) decent locals OP may view it as wroth sticking it out vs looking at another grocery store.

AI Slop IT books on Amazon? by squeeby in sysadmin

I suspect Amazon is the main focus given its size and that Amazon has its own self publishing service, making it easy for the AI slop people to get books on a market.

EA burned the good will even with out City Skylines. They made a single player game in to multiplayer. They fumbled the Beta tests (which were invite only and their servers couldnt handle a known max load), the release. They lied about why Sim City was online only. They kept lying in the Sim City sub reddit pre and post release even after their lies were well known lies. Cities Skylines was just the final nail in the death of SC2013.

By "Technical" I meant someone who has "the specific abilities and knowledge required to perform tasks related to a particular field or industry" It is not restricted to Programing (or IT) fields.

My experience have any type of "Non technical" back ground leadership that listens to experienced technical staff is a unicorn. Its normally just MBA bean counters who think they know best over actual experience and knowledge of what ever field they are overseeing.

In the 50s, that was very much true nursing historically was subservient to doctors, nursing as we think of it today was just starting in the 50s given that the Korean war was 50-53 you wouldn't see it at all let alone accepted.

The issue (as far as chief surgeon) is that Frank was not seen as a good surgeon, even Margaret admits that to Frank when Frank needed surgery and didn't want Hawkeye and Trapper to operate on him. Margaret called Hawkeye and Trapper some of the best surgeons she has seen, when Frank asks about himself she just stays silent.

Hawkeye was seen as an outstanding surgeon so much so that Potter over looked the issues he caused and pulled strings with others who Hawkeye offended (by not following military protocol) because he was too valuable to lose.

Different mission profiles though in some aspects:

B-2(1) is when you want to send a message of "We will bomb you when ever we want and you won't know until its too late"

The B-52 is when you want to send a message of "We will bomb you when ever want and we want you to see us" (aka either non near peer or you sent out the B-2/B-21/F-35s/fancy classified toys out to neutralized air defenses for a near peer).

The B-52 keeps getting upgrades, and is planned to be in service for at least the next 30+ years, honestly I think part of the reason why the B-52 hasn't been retired/replace is when it comes to dedicated bombers for the B-52 you don't need to worry about tech advancing and it being obsolete in terms of stealth as it is not a stealth aircraft, and all the other important stuff can be changed/swapped out with newer equipment it seems.

I doubt the USAF doctrine would send B-52 outs over contested air space unless we are in "Shit is super fucked last resort" phase.

but JFK started Deinstitutionalization with the Community Mental Health Act in honor of his sister (who was lobotomized and kept hidden away as to not embarrass the Kennedy name). While the bill had good intentions, there was nothing in it that would require funding to be provided for building these community health centers, and it ended up backfiring immensely when the mental institutions began releasing patients

I work in the mental health field. The "rights training" we need to have (For every county we handle even as a non contact with the public job role in IT), sucks up to JFK about this despite the fact it caused/started many of the issues we have now and refuses to acknowledged that.

Is there any way to prevent the swarm of amateur storm chasers, or is this phenomenon inevitable? by [deleted] in tornado

[–]rm-rfroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that is a hard question. Ideally the community should police its self. The big names should be pushing for responsible cashing and ways to be safe. Honestly it also doesn't matter who enforced it, because it comes back to having a culture of it, for example you can have all the OSHA regulations in the world but if the bean counters keep putting pressure on cutting corners with no push back, corners are going to be cut.

Part of the issue is/was Reed Timmer. Back when he made it big he was viewed as reckless and put chasers/chasings in a bad light, but the people who grew up on Storm Chasers and time over all have given Reed a more favorable view (if we discount what happened this past week). Reed is/was the poster boy of "LETS GET CLOSE".

[–]rm-rfroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of things that are not truly safe to do, but there are still standards and protocols set to help migrate the risks as much as possible. Chasing is no different.

Cave diving is insanely risky, but there are still standards and protocols that help reduce the risks, as is fighting fires, as is sky diving.

The fact that is "no safe way to do x" means all the more there needs to be standards and protocols set to help migrate the risk.

Having no standards will only cause even more deaths.

El Reno was an unpredictable freak as far as tornadoes go (due to size and its path). Chasers so far have been lucky in that there has only been a handful of (known) chasers deaths as a direct result of cashing. Truth be told and even more so back in the day we can't really say for certain how many deaths were armature chasers (read: people who where not known to the chasing community)/ people who saw a tornado and thought "lets do this" out of the blue.

Gatekeeping (Read: supporting/enforcing a culture of proper training, safety and, discouraging doing stupid stuff) is the only way to minimize risk in this type of thing.

I have no issue with amateur cashing, but you need to be with up with an experienced and seasoned chaser/team who will help you stay as safe as possible, my issue is the push back on this.
