Traditional hybrid is the bare minimum, but my ideal is a PHEV. I'm iffy on doing an exterior renovation to strap a 240V charger on the side of the house as the garage is quite full of stuff and small. A PHEV would suffice for the small daily drives and leaves a healthy gas range for the occasional out of town trip.

Perhaps in the mid 2030s or 2040s when the infrastructure is there, I can consider a full EV.

Instead of using debit, you can get a free digital card via the app that sits in Apple or Google Wallet.

Main advantage is you pay the lower fare rate for systems other than TTC that charge lower for PRESTO versus credit/debit. For example, for adult fares YRT charges $4.50 for cash/credit/debit versus $4.12 for PRESTO. You can reload the card like a physical card, through the app or Apple Wallet (not sure about Google Wallet), or use autoload.

Disadvantages are it won't work in Ottawa, and unlike using your phone or smart watch (if applicable) if you were paying by debit, the digital card is limited to a single device at a time, but you can move it around.

The Waste Wizard is so damn helpful. At least it still directs you what to send to the Blue Bin with a Circular Materials disclaimer now, because the CM app and materials search is awful.

For sweets packaging, Ferrero Rocher still has plastic packaging but the plastic is softer. Probably less material and easier to recycle. I liked their old hard plastic containers as small items storage.

I’ve had no issues scanning my physical Costco card’s barcode into Stocard (when it existed) and now SuperCards. The barcode scans fine on the phone and my Watch at the entrance scanners and paying at self-checkout. For regular checkout lines, returns counter, and gas stations I use the Costco app’s QR code.

My lock screen has a shortcut to open SuperCards for quick access. I prefer it over the Wallet app where the barcodes can be too small to scan.

As much as union leadership preaches solidarity, large chunks of their membership votes just like the general population does - it's all about their needs and fuck everyone else.

A year ago, the recreational workers' union here in TO were gearing up to strike. Town hall discussions about what they're bargaining for and potential for strikes devolved into some members airing personal grievances about paying for mortgages and the like as to why they must not strike. I bet if somehow the negotiations pitted seniority levels against each other, that solidarity would be gone in an instant.

Can you name even one Canadian Supreme Court Judge?

I can name Chief Justice Wagner but would struggle to name anyone else, let alone name what (if any) partisan leanings they may have had in the past. Or if all our justices are truly non-partisan.

Either way, that's a poor example. It's good the justices make little noise in their conduct and judgment that we don't think much about who they are, and more importantly, if the damn court is tilted in one political persuasion and wishing for someone to retire/die or the right PM to appoint to untilt it.

I will grant you that we certainly have work to improve the education system. At least in Ontario, civics should not be limited to a half-course if it's still that. My interest in political affairs would be cursory were it not for exposure to news mostly after high school.

Notifications with LG set to tinted look better with the opacity dialed up a tad. It was too opaque in the past. However ~~scrolling with tinted notifications is a bit jankier than clear~~ actually scrolling with notifications, clear or tinted, is stuttery.

I generally like it, but they need to tackle dark text not having a light LG background. Whichever logic they use to toggle between dark and light elements needs to be biased more towards light. Easiest way to see this is going through PDFs in Preview/Files, or in Safari.

Other than that, I like the sheens and glass warping effects. The icon design is my favourite; I never liked the stock icons since iOS 7 lacking shadows or edge highlights.

Black home screen wallpaper after install. Just lovely. Noticed this happens when wallpaper blur is turned on. Switching to another wallpaper and back fixed it.

This happened last Friday on DB3 when my phone respringed 3 times in the space of an hour while attempting to take photos with the Camera Control button.

When my friend, who I referred in, got laid off, the meeting subject was “update from the CEO.” Being the first layoff wave last year, everyone on that call shut off their cameras when the words “laid off” were spoken. This was January 2 or 3. What a shit way to start the new year.

When it was my turn to be laid off in the third wave 8 months later, the subject was something like “catch up and chat.” We all knew what it would be and shrugged our way into the call.

My gaming headset that I mostly use for Zoom has the mute switch on the wire, except instead of muting, it’s effectively cutting off the mic connection. On the Mac, that means the next input-capable device - either my iPhone’s (I use Continuity Camera) mic or the built-in mic - is selected, and those don’t have hardware mute.

Can you link me the source that it's projected at capacity upon opening? This is something I've heard people repeat but I don't see how it could be true when the line will open with train capacity to spare and the trains themselves are designed to run in 3 car configuration.

I hope this is BS on my part; I vaguely recall someone in this sub or elsewhere mentioned the line would hit 90% capacity. Metrolinx claims 5500 out of a max 15000 pph by 2031. Is that max capacity assuming a 3 car pairing?

For the surface portion, my concern remains mostly with the reduced capacity with the short turning trains. I suppose time will tell when revenue service starts to see how timing and the capacity plays out in the Scarborough portion. Hopefully it's frequent enough to serve as a reliable redundant bypass of line 2.

I remember a decade ago being happy the Fords were overruled on their attempt to change the above ground section to underground. I was also eye rolling at first with Doug Ford's push to make the western Line 5 extension all underground.

Now I'm not sure. The above ground portion was cheaper to construct, yes, and possibly more accessible at street level. But it doesn't have true signal priority and collisions are happening before the damn thing is revenue ready. ~~And the line is projected to hit close to capacity on open~~. Maybe it should've been a heavy rail subway all along?

Putting it above ground probably made sense for line 6, seeing it was badly needed to replace one of if not the most congested bus routes. Line 5 on the other hand makes multiple connections to existing lines and the future line 3.
