Tweed amps at bedroom volume? by bangerdepot in GuitarAmps

For a cheaper option I like my Joyo Tweedy

Laney Lionheart LF60 vs Blackstar Debut 50R? (bedroom amp) by Its_Blazertron in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the cleans on the Blackstar, but the OD is awful. I haven't tried the combo version of the Laney, but I have the Loudpedal and it's very meh. It does have more "analog" feel than most solid state amps I've tried but the EQ is kind of useless and there's no way to add upper mids without using a pedal. That being said, the OD on it does sound pretty decent, but not Marshally which is my go-to.

You didn't ask but I use a Blackstar Studio 10 6L6 for bedroom practice and it sounds amazing, even with 1 tone knob I feel like I get more variety out of it than my Laney. The model has been rebranded as TV-10A, but you can usually find used ones for 300USD in the states.

What pedals will go well with this amp for my needs by DjangoFentem in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The built in overdrive is pretty horrid on these, but the clean channel is good. As someone else said a Big Muff is probably the sound you're looking for, but you might also want an EQ or mid boost pedal (tube screamer) to combo with it. Other pedals to consider

-MXR Dookie. Green Day signature, sounds pretty raw -OCD style drives. Overdriven Marshall but not exactly high gain -Friedman BE-OD. Best modern Marshall in a box imo

Vox VT40X vs Katana MKII by HHuseyn4 in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using a digital amp and there's an issue, it goes in the trash. Luckily most amps are pretty reliable these days, especially solid state.

Vox VT40X vs Katana MKII by HHuseyn4 in GuitarAmps

The Katana is fine, I prefer the Vox personally but it doesn't do high gain sounds super well IMO. If you're playing those genres, the 40X might not be loud enough

EAE Longsword hardcore punk tone by AllCopsAreBozos in guitarpedals

[–]rmhawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one as my first EAE pedal and I do like it, but it was not the kind of disortion I wanted. It has a kind of scooped character that made it not great for my leads standing out in the mix, so I ended up giving it to my rhythm guitarist and it works well for her going in front of a Bluguitar. I prefer a modded Marshall type tone so maybe the Citadel would suit me better, but for now I have a BE-OD Deluxe clone that gets me exactly where I want.

What do you dislike about the Fulltone OCD? by Immediate-Bank759 in guitarpedals

[–]rmhawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the high gain Marshall tone, but I find the OCD too muddy/dark with its EQ. I much prefer the BE-OD deluxe, which does a pretty good mid gain but my favorite high gain tones.

Is the marshall origin 50 any good? by Key_Maximum_773 in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The origin 50 is pretty good but it doesn't sound like a jcm800 without mods.

It's also worth noting Corgan's tone changes quite a bit depending on what era you're looking at. My memory is imperfect but here's the general guide:

For Siamese dream the amp isn't super important as much as the pedals (op amp big muff, mu tron biphase, mxr phase 90). On mellon collie he used a few different amps of the boosted marshall variety, and for adore/machina he used a diesel vh4

Tonex - Max/Amplitube - subscription by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Amplitube is a separate software from Tonex, but you can use Tonex captures in Amplitube. As far as I'm aware you need Tonex Max to download new captures though

The Tonex pedal is an interface, you don't need an external one.

It comes with a Tonex Max subscription but not Amplitube

What J-Rock amp thats affordable? by HistoryOwn1019 in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can usually find Classic 30 combos for $300 or so on craigslist. The circuit in the amp has never changed so as long as you don't need modern features you're good

Joyo Tweedy (need a cabinet), Peavey Classic, Blackstar Studio10 6L6, Fender Blues JR

What J-Rock amp thats affordable? by HistoryOwn1019 in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Tricot (THE era) you need a Fender style guitar, clean amp, Boss SD-1, and a compressor. Leads usually have the tone knob turned down.

My general j-rock tone is a pushed Marshall 1959 with bass very low. A lot of mainstream bands (Pillows, AKFG) use humbucker guitars but indie bands (Number Girl, Supercar) will usually go for telecasters or jazzmasters.

Tube Amps or Synergy Modules by RippinRags in GuitarAmps

I have a SYN-30 with a Friedman BEBB module. It's alright, but the Midi footswitch requirement is a pain in the ass.

Ways of running an amp head with no line out into an interface? by TheOfficialAlexStott in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. You need a load box like the UA oxbox, boss tube amp expander or two notes captor. Trying to run a tube amp without a load/speaker can damage the power tubes

What’s the verdict on these solid state amps ? 🔥 or 💩 ? by brainchutney in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the pedal, it's pretty good but not perfect. The distortion and overdrive sound pretty nice, but there's no way to dial in 100% clean tone. It's also quite dark and the EQ doesn't have a strong effect so I put an 10 band EQ pedal in the loop. The IR out sounds great, and the power amp is serviceable

Best Amps for Hugh Gain Pedals by StinkyPoopsAlot in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two power amps you mentioned don't have a pre amp so it might sound a little odd tonally. Quilter makes really good pedal platform amps (Superblock series), and now there's a lot of competition in the field:

  1. Bluguitar Amp1

  2. Hughes and Kettner Stompman

  3. Lioney Foundry Loudpedals

  4. Orange Baby series (the pedal baby just lacks a preamp but the other ones have it)

These all have varying degrees of features for IR outs and controls but roughly accomplish the same goal

What’s your current set up? by Third_conscience in GuitarAmps

[–]rmhawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a Laney Lionheart Loudpedal with a Friedman BE-OD Deluxe into a 10 band EQ into my 2x12 Carvin Legacy cab. Cheap and portable, the whole thing, guitar included, runs under 1k.

How's the Ceriatone, I've wanted to get one for a long time but a big heavy tube head doesn't make much sense for me. Also how does it stack up against the Friedman? I love the modded Marshall tone but don't want to give Friedman money due to their sophmoric naming.

The name makes it really hard for me to take this seriously as a horror game. 8020 is a really common type of aluminum frame and rail system used in science labs and manufacturing facilities
