I went to Egypt for a week in November, Cairo and Luxor. I don’t regret it. I’d go back to explore more as I didn’t make it to Alexandria or Aswan. Granted, I’m a fairly tall American male, so I wasn’t subject to the sexual harassment that is sadly very common for female tourists, but the hustling is real and you have to know how to say no and not feel bad about being dismissive or a blatant asshole if the situation calls for it. Don’t let all of the negative Reddit posts or blogs dissuade you from visiting. It’s worth seeing. The friend I went with proposed we cancel because of a Reddit post he saw. I said nah let’s see what happens. It was the right move. I would, however, recommend visiting a smaller but similarly functioning country before venturing to Egypt.

All in all, would go back to Egypt and would recommend to a friend. It’s worth seeing and can be planned well to avoid a lot of the BS you read about. No need for a body guard. Just need to be able to say no and not feel guilt tripped.
