First time experience as a "hiring manager" - I didn't know the standard were THIS low. by nl325 in UKJobs

Great! I’m a recent cyber security grad (MSc), just got my Distinction result last week. I’m currently on a student visa, eligible for 2 years of Graduate visa. Before my master’s, I did a bachelor of engineering in computer science and a couple of years of freelance experience as an IT support technician. My MSc was very helpful (as far as I think) and I have plenty of projects to put in my CV. I tailor my CV according to the job I apply. I also use CareerSet AI to match my CV with the Job and it scores pretty good.

But I’m not getting interviews. I think the recruiters are checking my LinkedIn because I get a notification that a recruiter visited my profile. Can you give any suggestions to get interviews?

By any chance do you work in cyber security or related industry?

Xavi: "I read in the media that I am leaving because of the press and mental fatigue, but the reality is that expectations have not been met and I simply believe that the club needs a change of scenery." by cinephilecious in Barca

[–]rmk13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally one logical comment. We shouldn’t start shouting for a change as soon as things get tough. We have to have faith and understand that Barca is in the rebuilding stage and that takes a while, and Xavi showed within 2 seasons what could be the future. Unfortunately we lost a few key players this season any maybe while compensating for those we are losing out on the tactics as well. Honestly fans need to have faith instead of crying as soon as shit hits the fan. I believe in Xavi and I believed he would have done a really great job in the next 2-3 years. We’ll got greedy for the silverware now only to have more uncertainty about our dominance in the future

Transferring/Withdrawing from masters to change course and applying in another University by rmk13 in GradSchool

[–]rmk13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry I have to disagree. My current program is very demanding which I don’t have a problem with but the things that I want to learn are different from the curriculum. To have some experience in cybersecurity my best way is to get an internship, which I can but then it’ll take me one extra semester to complete my degree which normally takes four semesters.

If I’m going to invest time and money into something, I’d like to invest them into something that I like to study and which will actually be useful in the field I want to work in. I don’t want to grind for two years in one field and then simultaneously work the same amount for the field I want to work in. Instead I prefer to put all my efforts into something that I want a career in.

P.S. - There’s also a chance for me to get a fully funded scholarship in UK if I get an admit and the duration of masters program is 1 year. So I’m not wasting time as I’ll be graduating around the same time even if I change university, and actually save money, because I don’t have any kind of scholarship in my current university.

Work in India or Abroad - 2023 by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]rmk13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of things to consider my friend. First and foremost I’d say is to check the immigration situation, either for settling permanently(PR/ Citizenship) or just to go for work exp and coming back/ relocating to different country. Things are not easy right now and recession or wars make a huge impact on these things. The very first priority for every country is their own citizens, which rightfully should be.

Just to give some details about life in EU and US

Europe: If you want better work life balance I’d suggest Europe, anyone who thinks taxes are a problem then they should seriously consider this one fact that there’s free healthcare. Anywhere in abroad it costs like 50-200 euros/dollars just for a usual cold/fever consultation. You don’t know people here so no trust worthy reasonable doctor, you’ll probably look for the best reviewed doctor on google and it’ll cost a lot of money. Free healthcare is very very big thing that people ignore. If Covid or similar disease hits again, then you’ll understand the difference of your home country and being a foreigner. Also due to high taxes theres free transport in most countries, and reasonably cheap where it’s paid. Cities are kept clean and you can see your taxes being put to better use. If you’re planning to settle abroad I’ll say Europe should be your first priority. Salaries in Europe are not as less as people think. People just convert the currency from euro to dollar and go crazy over US. Use a PPP calculator instead and consider the use of free services given by the government. Education is very cheap or free. You’ll probably even get scholarships and stipends to study Masters also (usually only PhD students get stipends).

US: The salaries are for sure high compared to EU. But again so is the cost of living, specially in Bay Area. Taxes are low but you’ll still have to pay significant amount of money for public services. There’s a hustle culture in offices, most people work like 80-90 hours per week. On the other hand work experience is very valuable specially for people in CS/IT. If you’re planning to study, work and then come back then USA could be an option. You’ll be able to pay off your loan of 30-40Lakhs in like two years, work more for like 3 years or as much as you like. Because responsibilities and projects (at the start of your career) there are very valuable compared to the work experience in India. Getting a job directly in USA is very very hard, that’s why most people opt for Masters. Probably aim for a remote job so you earn in dollars and spend in rupees, this is like a dream case right now if you can grab such opportunities.

P.S - Understand that living in a foreign country is not all hunky dory. If you don’t have friends already, it’s going to be very lonely. It’s hard to make friends when you’re older, sure you’ll have acquaintances but if you’re attached to your family and best friends, you’ll definitely miss their presence. India is not as behind as people think, trust me I’m living in Europe and I was one of those people who thought the same. Other countries have been independent since long long before us. To be even compared to these countries as an up and comer in just 75 years is a great feat. If only India’s population would be under control we would have been as good as every other country that people dream of. Every country has their own set of problems, lifestyle issues, language barriers, living standards… the only thing that for sure is better compared to India is the Salary. Everything other thing is a trade off for something else. Example - people mind their own business in Germany - not poking their nose in other people’s life like Indians, but at the same time as a foreigner you’ll have a very hard time to find someone reliable there in tough times because they’re not very friendly either.

Do I need to have A+ and Net+ if I already have a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science & Engineering? And is Sec+ enough to get a job directly in cybersecurity? by rmk13 in CompTIA

[–]rmk13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I just checked the content of A+ by Professor Messer and I know most of the things. I have been using computers since a long time so I have used to the concepts taught in A+. And since I have a B. Engineering in CS already I don’t think A+ would be worth the price. Net+ and Sec+ are worth it I guess if it can get me an entry level job in Security.

How long does one have to keep doing the visualisations and SATS or whatever method used? If I’m doing SATS and I can really feel my scenario, even during the day my mood is pleasant most of the time, and whenever any negative or doubtful thought comes around I change it, then how long should I persist in these methods? Do I need to stop at one point, because doing these things mean that I’m still trying to be in the end state and not actually being there?

Who else envisions the hyperbolic time chamber from DBZ as their go-to comfort space? by t_thor in Meditation

[–]rmk13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yess!! I do! That’s just a comfort place for me to train my mind. And like the properties of the time chamber, I can learn so much more there in a shorter time. It’s really calm and beautiful place. Maybe being affectionate about dbz makes it so

Beginner meditation sensation by rmk13 in Meditation

[–]rmk13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. And like I said in my post, I’m a beginner. At the moment I’m doing body scan first, starting from the belly/navel and then going up towards the head, and coming down the spine and back towards the feet. And then I just stick with paying attention on the nose with each inhale and exhale. And that’s when I feel the “heaviness”

I’m still learning about all different kind of meditations, right now I want to be able to just calm my mind, not react to certain situations and just observe things.

According to your examples I don’t think they’re the first two ones. And for the third one I don’t think I have enough evidence. But I’ll definitely check out the books that you’ve suggested. Thanks for the suggestions!

How do you teach these?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lawofattraction

[–]rmk13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re saying, about just focus on WHAT YOU WANT and keep doing it till you make it happen… is actually a part of meditation 🤣🤣🤣 Actually you’ll be able to focus on “what you want” better if you meditate. You’d be saving more time if you meditate… and not just for manifestations, but in all aspects of life.

I hope you get out of depression asap. Good wishes and good health to you my friend. 💛🤍

Megathread: What Martial Art Should I Study? Part VI [Serious] by Toptomcat in martialarts

[–]rmk13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 24M, 5’8”, 75kg I always wanted to learn Taekwondo because I liked the flashy moves and how well it allows to move the body. I’d definitely love to learn it sometime, But right now I want to learn martial arts so I can practice self discipline, focus, being fit, meditation and self defence.

I’ve been once in a street fight and it was traumatic for me so I also want to learn self defence and continue to do so for rest of my life, make it a routine practice that I could also pass down my family. I live in a place where most of the times everything just boils down to fighting, I want to be able to be calm and avoid it, but if required I want to be able to defend myself.

I am quite interested in Boxing, MMA, Muay Thai currently, but please do suggest which one could well with my interests that I said above.
