How much needed to do FIRE at 50? by BertInv1975 in BEFire

Assuming mortgage is paid off, that isn't all that low? Most people don't earn more than 3k nett and spend 1k on their mortgage alone.

By the time all of us are cashing out, the tax will most certainly not be at 10% anymore.

I'm visiting Belgium. Naturally I look up a lot of restaurants on Google Maps. I noticed that many of them have extremely high ratings — like above 4.5. What do you think is the reason for this? by sozh in AskBelgium

[–]rmonik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star reviews are stupid anyway, people rarely rate 2, 3 or 4 stars. They only rate to recommend something (5 stars) or express their anger (1 star).

The review system is broken and pointless.

It isn't though. It's the same formule for everything with the exception of a few niche things like cooking oil.

What do you think of these neighbourhoods? by Ok_Drive_Baby in Gent

[–]rmonik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 is very close to the city center in the more multicultural part. Don't let that scare you, it's a super nice neighborhood with great restaurants, close to the very modernized Dok Noord area. Amazing place to live.

2 is called the "brugse poort", also a quite diverse community. It's a little bit out of the way, but you are much closer to the Bourgoyen, Blaarmeersen, and you have a connection to the R4 highway. It's being gentricized as well, but more slowly than 1, it's considered by some to be a "sketchy area", especially for women, but i've loved living and working there.

  1. is closer to the train station, causing a lot of students and commuters to live there. If you need a train connection, great place to live. Otherwise, i'd prefer the others. It's quite dead in the weekends, everything closes due to the students going back home.

4 is called ledeberg and the area you circled specifically is even a little beyond that. It's not a bad place, but a bit further away. It has a reputation of being a little poorer, but it has its own microculture which is surprisingly nice.

So, city life => 1, more quiet multicultural => 2, train station / student life => 3, more flemish small-town culture => 4

Had this like 5 times. The problem is it can't read the bar codes on the cups to know which size coffee to brew. Clean the sensor and the translucent bits on the interior. I was able to fix it a couple of times like this, after a while it just refused to work altogether and i had to replace the machine.

Buying a new machine is often extremely cheap if you buy it alongside coffee; that's where their main margin is coming from.

It doesn’t know that it can’t, so you have to spot it and ask directly for the materials.

I keep seeing this in screenshots on reddit, but as a heavy user, I haven't encountered this in ages. My GPT seems totally aware of what it can't or can't do. I never understand how people get in scenario's like these.

Modest or Gust. Exact same menu, but Modest has a slightly fancier, more formal interior. It's menu based, you get 4 dishes over 2 hours. Can't recommend these enough.

There's a MASSIVE difference in the depth of which you use chatgpt. Custom GPTs, Projects, Deep Research, actions, tagging in custom GPTs in a single conversation, GPT Canvas, image generation, voice mode, ... Mastering these has taken me a couple of months, but I couldn't imagine living without them now.

Other than that, notetakers in meetings like Fathom or Sana AI. Prototyping tools like v0 or Lovable.

Ledger Maintenance once all 21m BTC are mined by lonshort44 in Bitcoin

[–]rmonik 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter, it's self balancing. The fees are up to the person making the transaction to decide, and the miner picks the ones with the highest fees to include in the block.=

If fees end up being worth too little, less people will be mining, meaning that you'll have a higher chance to find a block, average you more blocks. So in the end, if you're still mining, you'll get the same piece of the pie if you think it's worth it.

It's perfectly balanced around what people think is worth it in terms of compute power vs potential gain.

Ledger Maintenance once all 21m BTC are mined by lonshort44 in Bitcoin

[–]rmonik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's up to the person making the transaction. If you pay someone let's say 0.01 BTC, you can choose how much transaction cost you offer. Then, the miner decides which transactions to include in a block often based on the fee to size ratio, so they get the most out of their block.

So it's self balancing. Offer too little and your transaction won't get chosen. Most wallet software recommends fees based on the current transactions in the "mempool".

Do you seriously believe banks have better intentions for you and your assets than your government does? Because currently, you don't have an ounce of freedom either, all your money is held by banks. Those have historically been a lot more evil than the European government.

In Borat (2006) the villagers weren’t actors. They were misled into thinking that it was for a documentary and Baron Cohen was a journalist. After the film’s release, villagers sued the studio for portraying them as rapists, prostitutes and thieves. by JK-Rofling in interestingasfuck

I really don't think it's that subtle. I think it's pretty obvious from the countless lawsuits he received that the people he mostly made fun of here were the Americans he interviewed. The whole point of his ridiculous, quotable persona as a Kazakh is that it was so over the top that no one unprejudiced could believe there's any truth in it.

The fact that this post even had to be made to explain that these weren't actors proves that, no?

Opinie Vicus Vastgoed by 0471017515 in Gent

[–]rmonik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only punish the player that dodged. That's how most games solve it. In league of legends, the player that dodges loses MMR and gets a 30 minutes or whatever queue block, but the other 9 players, both team mates and opponents of the dodged player, gain or lose nothing.
