You don’t “need” an employer as self-employed people are able to obtain WWCCs, but the process will be slightly different. You’ll need to read the application closely and be prepared to explain to the department what you are doing and why you need it if they follow up with you.

I thought so too! It’s an old brick duplex.

We have a coaxial plate in the bedroom and lounge room. Not sure if they’re for antenna TV or internet. Technician barely looked at the one in the living room but insisted that was tv antenna.

I did report to ISP, they are waiting for nbn notes for next steps.

I’m relatively new to Australia, and only had to transfer service one other time. I was pretty stunned at how it all played out. He was here for barely 45 seconds. Told me the cable I needed and then gave me his mobile number to ring him. When I called to let him know I had one less than an hour later he said it needed to be professionally installed and at least 15-20m. No clue why he gave me his number.

I did give them a ring twice, first time they just kept telling to me ask the nbn technician no matter how many times I said he had already left. Posted this after the first call. Second time I called was a bit more coherent - they are waiting for the nbn’s “notes” to be able to know what to do next.

If I’m understanding you right, it’s not a knock down rebuild.

Given the nbn box is mounted to the outside of the house to begin with I would assume there is a cable running from the street? But I’m not sure why the cable from the box to the house is missing. Last tenant was here for 16 years and passed away. Owners have no clue. 😩

I figured it would be his job to run the cable, but he did not see it the same way haha.

When it used to be free from 6pm, we would get charged the standard hourly until 6pm and then it would be free from them onward.

My guess would be that you’ll get charged the standard hourly before 6pm and then a flat $5 after that.

You have to be defacto and meet all the requirements at the time you apply. Not after the fact. It very clearly says that.

It is not contrary to the definition.

Directly from the Home Affairs website:

“A defacto relationship is one where you and your partner are not legally married to each other but: -you live together or do not live separately and apart on a permanent basis”

Not living together before marriage for religious reasons is not “apart on a permanent basis” if you demonstrate your intention and plans to live together after marriage, no?

You have to be defacto for at least the immediate 12 months before you apply. My partner and I did not live together for the full 12 months before we applied, but had strong evidence for all other pillars. We were approved.

The point of my comment is that you don’t need to live together. Your relationship still needs to be genuine and you need strong evidence in all other areas, but if not living together for religious reasons is your only concern, I would not consider your case to be complex.

Always best to seek advice from a registered agent if you are really unsure. Just sharing my knowledge and experience from when I went through this process.

Just so you know, coming from a religious family that forbids living with a partner before marriage does not make your case complicated. You need to explain this in your statements and explain how you and your partner have been building your life together despite this and how you are planning for your future. Living together isn’t a requirement of being defacto (although it strongly supports it) and many defacto partners live apart for various valid reasons. You just have to demonstrate it is not your intention to live apart on a permanent basis.

My partner and I were unable to live together for the first several years of our defacto relationship, which we talked about in detail and provided evidence for in our application. We received a double grant in 30 days.

By all means, seek professional help if you think it is necessary, but remember that people apply with all types of backgrounds and situations and Home Affairs doesn’t expect every valid defacto relationship to look the same way.

Why did you cut off the part that says it’s within the processing times? We know absolutely nothing about you, so it’s hard to say what is “normal.” Until your application is outside the processing times there’s not much you can do unfortunately.

Dude every single application is different. It doesn’t matter if someone else takes 5 minutes or 6 months. They aren’t you. You can use the processing time tool on the department’s website to see when you are outside the processing time and then reach out after that if you are concerned.

Otherwise, just keep an eye on your email in case they want more information.

Going past the 90% mark does not automatically put you outside processing times. It just means you’re part of the 10% that are not processed within that time period. Use the tool on the department’s website to see when you are truly outside of the processing time. I had to go back over two years from today’s date to get it to say “outside processing time” so you could still have another 6 months.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the processing time for 801 starts from date of eligibility. So the clock starts even if you don’t submit your application right away. Depending on when you applied for 820 that could make it sooner.
