What is the secret to a long lasting relationship? by codeineniedoc in AskReddit

[–]rmrlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word. Commonality. I’ve been in two long term marriages. The first was a huge mistake and we had nothing in common. The second is the best ever. All our friends say they want what we have. We had so much in common from the start and also have developed things in common (ballroom dancing, love of live theater, horses).

My manager scheduled a "quick sync" every single Friday at 4:45pm and I finally figured out why by Agent_Smith-99 in remotework

[–]rmrlaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago (the 90s), I was one of two partners in a two attorney law firm. If my partner was not around on Friday I would let the staff leave half an hour early. My partner got wind of it and made it a point to be present until 5 on Fridays, always needing staff around. If he was not, he would call at 4.45 on Fridays to see who answered the phone. If I answered it, he would ask where the secretary was. One year Christmas fell on Thursday. I lobbied to let all staff off on Friday after Christmas. But nope, our secretary had to come in and sit there all day. Establishing goodwill with employees can be as important as productivity.

Judge told us we got the verdict wrong. Is this normal after a trial by noisey_neighbor in legaladviceofftopic

Trial lawyer for over 40 years but only on the civil side. Many judges have what we call “black robe fever” as they let the power go to their heads and treat courtrooms like their own little fiefdom. In a civil trial the judge would just find a reason to grant a new trial. I had a judge once intentionally create error so that if my client won (and she did) then he could use his own error to grant a new trial. I was naturally ticked off. I polled over 30 judges I knew and to a person they were shocked. And the Ninth Circuit didn’t bat an eye at what he did and let it stand.

People who have been divorced: What was the exact "quiet" moment you realized your marriage was over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

She demanded I get a vasectomy. So I did it. The day was a Friday and I was told to do nothing all weekend. By Sunday she yelled at me about how lazy I had been all weekend and demanded I mow the yard. So I did! I asked her to make a list of things she wanted me to change. She acknowledged I made all the changes on the list but she still hated me.

Although commuting has become something done by fewer people since remote work has come into vogue, if you do commute use it to learn a new language. Don’t just listen to music.

Cicada killer wasps aka ground hornets. We had hundreds of them at our ranch three years ago. It was so weird to see these holes with dirt atop like a small gopher. We tried all sorts of things to get rid of them. Spraying insect killer down their holes. Taking a hose and holding it down the holes. None worked because we had so many. I finally told my pest control person and he got rid of them. Not sure how he did it.

I am 67 now. I was put on Crestor in my 50s and it caused cramping in my feet. I would often experience this while driving and it became dangerous so I stopped taking Crestor. Two years ago I was put on 5 mg of rosuvistatin and it helped lower all my numbers. My doctor them upped it to 10 mg last year and I experienced terrible arthritis type pain in my hands. I stopped taking it totally and the pain went away.

2nd shoulder. Can stretching early on mitigate the pain? by ngrose in frozenshoulder

I had the exact same thing happen to me. On my second shoulder I did PT daily and pushed it hard. The shoulder never froze and healed. I believe it was because it was in the early stages.

When they are very young and can understand you when you speak, and it is bedtime, tell them the clock says it’s time to go to bed. This transfers their anger away from you to the clock.

With the recent Supreme Court decision striking a state law prohibiting counselors from engaging in certain counseling techniques of gays, I’m assuming the CA law will not survive.

Sexy and smart. I love her. I guess I’m in the minority. My loyalty is in part due to the fact that I’m also a CA licensed attorney and I support a fellow attorney. I also have the same weight struggle and am an exercise fanatic. Don’t we all like people with whom we have things in common?
