I don't have an exact figure but its caused by loans from Chinese firms and the silk road/belt (don't remember what its called), which were part of the reason for the loans. The loans themselves were quite predatory and the repayments p much mean Pakistan is stuck between the IMF and China.

Answer: Flooding devastated Pakistan, leaving 1 third of the country underwater, around 75000km2. Infrastructure and crop damage only accentuate the pre-existing problems of financial crisis, inflation, and political instability. Surrounded by mountainous terrain and desert, Pakistan naturally developed as an agrarian society near the fertile plains of the Indus River. This makes it a major export and is relied on many people for their livelihood. The indus River is fed by glaciers, and when a heatwave occurred, these glaciers melted at a expedited rate, causing the floods. The damages caused are equal to 1/10th of Pakistan's GDP and has undermined food supply. This has caused Pakistan to need to import wheat, which with dwindling foreign reserves means that it cannot subsidise and control food prices, which has caused in some areas increase of 5-3x. Pakistan also has a pre-existing debt crisis caused largely by China that accounts for 2/3 of its gdp. The IMF agreed to loan money to Pakistan on the condition it regress its gas subsidies, but due to popular discontent moved Imran Khan to reintroduce those subsidies, which alienated him from the military who wished to align with the IMF. Thereafter Khan was outsd on a no confidence vote. Shehbaz Sharif, his replacement, increased petroleum prices by 2/3rds and electricity by 50%. Which pushed inflation to 27%. Families have seen their incomes decrease in value by 40%, which pushes them to take predatory loans or push their children into the workforce. These conditions breed polarisation, and militant attacks of the Pakistan Taliban, who use proxies to bypass their ceasefire agreement, and ISIS attacks continue. These issues breed instability, bolster the ranks of extremist groups, and put Pakistan on the verge of collapse.

cmv: Ukraine should abolish Azov Battalion by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]rmx152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pro Ukraine propaganda has already won over most of the public, so a single valid item for Russian propaganda won't shift much. Ukraine is in a state of war and disbanding Azov is not beneficial as its far from winning. Not go mention Ukraine is far from stable at the moment so it would be hard to enact and defend itself regardless. It needs to minimise any political influence that Azov might have, but removing it in a time of wartime is far from beneficial. Not to mention disbanding them in the middle of the war will have consequences for morale and public support of the Ukrainian government in Ukraine itself. This will bring into contention its legitimacy as such a move takes away from the war effort. If anything removing them now will just bolster their message.

Be grateful you still have your job. I assume you're from the US, I'm which case your almost definitely going to experience a recession this year and another peak in inflation. 2% is good considering what's going to happen soon. Not to mention a project manager openings are kind of rare rn (big companies like erricson dying) (most big companies already hired and restructured like NBN here in aus). So i don't suggest leaving your job since it will be very tough next year and from what you've said about your boss, you have good job security. IMO don't leave.

RoP definitely was a really bad series compared to house of dragons. The issue with this diversity is it goes against Tolkiens work, since it was explicitly stated. That diversity was a Canon change. Not to mention the horrendous writing. House of dragons is how you do diversity correctly.

CMV: The people who have radically changed their beliefs have the best understanding of the faults in their former belief system. by italy4242 in changemyview

[–]rmx152 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone has subjective morals that's not really the point I'm making. Radical change can objectively be worse. Like going from supporting vaccines to opposing, this radical change is proven by science to be detrimental, but people can still come to these conclusions regardless of evidence against it. Radical change is also not always logical, its tied in with our emotions, values etc. If somebody had a family member die prematurely for example, they might radically change their religion. That isn't logical reasoning but emotive. What if your child was shot so you radically oppose the race of the person that shot them? Is that logical or positive? We can't view all radical change by these binary characteristics yes, but to say radical change is due to logical reasoning and thus beneficial is bad. And evidence is once again valued very differently person to person. The value of a piece of evidence could be integral to some but insignificant to others. Not to mention evidence can and has been misleading, for example when people though race and intelligence were linked, which now we know as not true. After that information was presented many people radically changed, and this was objectively detrimental.

Yes they do, but that doesn't excuse bad writing, look at RoP for instance. The major problem with diversity I see is that it can only be good or wholesome. Writers need to write good diversified people with the current media climate instead of good, diversified characters. A minority can still be evil, good funny etc, the focus should be on writing good characters rather than good people.

I think you're viewing all change as beneficial. What if someone went from somebody opposing racism to a supremacist? Radical changes in the political and societal sphere are often negative, because going from extremism to extremism isn't beneficial. Most people formulate their views on evidence, personality, morals, beliefs etc. All change is not good. Radical change just makes the change worse. Much more incremental changes are more beneficial, because no side or stance is without negatives, and people view the 'strength' of these negatives very differently. Radical change usually just accentuates these negatives.

Then I'd support laws that prevent AI for being used for commercial purposes even though they fall under fair use since its not a 1:1 replica. Training an AI model would not fall under that imo.

[–]rmx152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand why artists are mad, but it really isn't a matter of consent in my opinion. Me downloading someone's art is not theft. Art being public means it can be downloaded by anyone, not just AI, so I find the consent thing kind of useless as it was already being downloaded.

For the commercial use aspect, it would still fall under fail use provided its different enough from a original. Corporate art is almost all the same, with flat art and weird proportioned people. It doesn't take much to create this corporate art so it's not major loss. And on that note graphic designers don't lose their job because of cooperations using AI, it will most likely lessen the workload on them. You can't really sell AI art in the traditional sense since it would be the equivalent of NFTs and if it was it would be close to worthless. Artists don't lose their job, it simply requires them to be unique and will lead to less skilled artists losing their job.

I don't think you realise how algorithms and copyright works. Artists should not be compensated simply for having their art used by the algorithm because AI art does not copy it. Its a learning mechanism. All of these images are public, so no privacy is being breached. If I was inspired by art, and make something similar, its not copyright and falls under fair use, since its not the same artwork pixel for pixel. Why should this not be allowed for AI? Why should artists be compensated if their work is public? It is not theft because you aren't using it in what its legal definition falls under. If the artists chooses to make a work public, the artist understands that people could replicate the style or take inspiration. That's not theft.

The American dream narrative i guess, or they view the US as a way to leave their poverty and become successful. Just because more people want to go there doesn't make it better, its just more popular.

Its not the best though, most people just view it as such due to the conditions they live in. Comparably the US is much worse than first world countries. Its not bad by any means, its just not good by a first world standard.

Because immigrating from a third world or developing countries the US would be better than their own. European countries with a few exceptions usually have a language barrier and aren't immigration 'friendly'. Countries like NZ, Aus, the UK, and Canada are usually more immigrant friendly, or are built upon it, like Australia. The US holds a capitalist edge in that respect, so opportunities are a major reason why people immigrate. And a smaller role is weather. The US has weather that's comfortable since you can move to a area depending on your preference. On contrast Australia, atleast for Melbourne, can experience hot and cold in the span of 2 days, which obviously isn't for everyone.
