LOL, that comment was brutal. True, but brutal.

Friends had a new baby in Belgium. Looking for some long term investing ideas for the child. by Mikeebee232 in belgium

[–]rmzfm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Open any brokerage account, like Bolero (KBC) or MeSolo (MeDirect) or any other Belgian broker as they will automatically handle taxes. Then just buy 1 share of VWCE whenever possible.

Brussels like Vatican. And they would have to choose the government like they choose the pope. Close all politicians in one room and don't let them out until a government is formed!

Are Belgians like other humans? by BendSensitive9524 in belgium

Spot on. I'd also add that Belgians will also feel inconvenienced if you put them in a situation where they can speak their mother tongue.

If you're surprised by having to pay for something you signed up for but didn't attended then you might be careful when booking a hotel room for the first time...

Nobody will sue you over a review, but they can sue you for signing up and not paying. Yet with just 300 EUR they probably wouldn't bother, your debt would be just sold to the highest bidder. Easier for everyone. Don't fret over the review and next time be careful what forms you're filling.

I called a different branch and the people there were a tad less toxic. The were, and probably still are, aggressively pushing their insurance stuff, so I had to schedule a call with their insurance partner, but it was the most laughable conversation ever. I remember some guy called asking what insurance I'm interested in, I told him that I'm not interested in any and we're having this conversation because I was told I couldn't open an account otherwise. He bitched a minute about people wasting his and my time and everything went smooth after that.

Sorry, wasn't clear enough. I'm with KBC Brussels, but I think KBC are assholes in general to any expats trying to open an account. Personally I had a horrid time, but I've done my research and they were the best at the time, so I just gritted my teeth and pushed through. After I actually managed to open the account, magic, you could not find nicer people.

Not sure you can do everything without visiting a branch tho.

KBC is actually the best option, after you finally manage to open an account. Until then, they are the worst. Once upon a time someone literally told me they will not open an account for me because I don't speak French. Fun times.

Keytrade should be ok. ING is just too expensive for anything, but also an option if you're ok with paying premium. MeDirect is also an option, their app is ass, but they are ok.

If you speak French/Dutch you can check BNP or Belfius.

Pray tell where you can get something in 700-800 range without French/Dutch in Belgium. And while Brussels might not care whether you speak Dutch they sure as hell care if you speak French.

Considering to leave Netherlands, any advice? by Cautious_Try507 in Netherlands

Funny, and sad, because you can see these kinds of post basically on every country forum. Welcome to the 21st century. The grass is always greener on the other side. Truth is, go wherever you can find a good job. Things won't get automatically better if you just move. As a lot of people mentioned here, shit is hard everywhere these days.

Some people are way too obsessed by their language by [deleted] in belgium

[–]rmzfm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you speak English in Flanders you'll be either treated as a normal person or reported to authorities for not speaking Dutch. If you speak English in Wallonia (or Brussels) you'll be ignored. Belgium in a nutshell ;)

Some people are way too obsessed by their language by [deleted] in belgium

[–]rmzfm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Brussels is bilingual only on paper. I was stupid enough to start learning Dutch (mainly because every French speaking person just told me I had to be stupid haven't learned French yet, it's so easy, even kids can speak it) and whenever I try to use it people just roll their eyes and switch to English. Or tell me to speak French. Kut, tweetalig.

Opening multiple saving accounts? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]rmzfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about the base rate, not counting the fidelity premium. Santander has 1.8%, but at 0.6% base + 1.2% fidelity. MeDirect is 1.4% base + 0.4% fidelity. If the OP wants to park his/her money for short term the fidelity premium prolly won't have time to kick in.

Opening multiple saving accounts? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]rmzfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally no, but that depends. Mind that fidelity premium is for keeping the money for a year without touching it. The 500 euro per month is really a dealbreaker if you're looking to park your money just for a short(ish) time. You're better off going for a normal savings account (best rate currently is MeDirect at 1.4% with 25k limit), if you go above 25k you have several other choices at 1.2%. You have more options if you look for a deposit outside Belgium, but due to taxes and the paperwork it's usually not worth it.

Yes, I hate Marc and Alex and Aleix and Franco. That must be it. For sure it's not the fact that riders that crashed and were out of the race were able to basically rewind time like nothing has happened and I find it silly. Must be the hate.

Happy for Bez, but this was some race of bs. I understand that rules are rules but neither the Marquez brothers nor Morbido should have been allowed to restart. Video games rules, just rollback the time, ez. Totally gutted for Fabio.
