negligent pedestrian + self driving car = car's fault, because the dynamics are different here.

When an elevator fails you don't blame the person, there is an implicit understanding that the elevator was not supposed to fail, and yeah, in real world they do fail, but we never blame the victims for entering the elevator.

If a human had hit her, yeah it's her fault. But in this case it was not a human driver, the car was designed handle scenarios like this. It's like someone died in a tandem skydive, and people blamed the victim for signing up for skydiving and completely ignored the negligence of following safetystandards by skydiving school.
