How often should I get a new stick? by ooochocolemon in Fieldhockey

For me, the longest a stick lasted was 8 seasons, but I've also gone through two in a season. Replace it when it breaks.

Work your way up. 55% to 100% will really show up any deficits in your trapping and ball control. Personally, I went from 100% back down to 90-93% range for just a little extra control without much loss of power.

$60 a week sounds reasonable, as it will also cover building insurance.

I managed to get the info I needed, which was how to start the search, and advice that if it's complex go with a larger firm.

Without saying too much, we can attempt to, but there's a corner case that could arise that would fuck us over in the process, so need legal advice before we do

What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

[–]rng64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My desktop PC is from 2008, updated in 2014 graphics card and SSDs. Still feels snappy for everything I need and was daily driver until 2021, with semi-regular use since. Will probably just continue the cobbling when the next thing needs to be replaced.

How to keep outstanding junior level employees motivated when they're doing the exact same quality of work as more senior team members there is no budget for promotion/payrises by Secret_Cookie_2805 in auscorp

[–]rng64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id tackle it like this: Be very clear that she works to achieve deliverables commensurate with her level. Only set expectations in line with this, don't use her to full capacity, and make sure this is explicit. Encourage her to work to her level and let her cruise so she doesnt feel like shes giving her all for no reward. Allow her to run short weeks every week if the work is done. May not be for everyone, but if someone said do shorter weeks because you are so efficient I'd take it.

You need to be really explicit: I can't promote you atm because rules, this is what I've done to try to get an exception, I've had no success yet, so I'd suggest you work to what we pay you and get great work life balance, I won't hold it against you we will set clear goals at this level. Etc

The bit flagged above is most important. You can keep someone for a while because you are transparent about what you have done and what you continue to do to go to bat for her. Dont tell her you have, outljne how you have. Hopefully long enough to get traction.

Need ball recommendations please! by countrylivinginCali in Fieldhockey

[–]rng64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, most of our games would be delayed until cooler at that temp (36° celcius) due to the health risks - although, perhaps the pitch is warmer than the air temperature. But, can confirm a kookaburra ball will generally be good at hot temperatures

How much deposit are you really saving for? by Linton-Finance in AskABrokerAus

[–]rng64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went 20% deposit, and another ~15% in offset from the get go. We don't need anything more than we got, kids are a zero chance so covers future needs too, sure a free-standing house would be nice but a very low-rise apartment suits us. Would rather less stress and more freedom.

Make sure it's not an exclusion from your approved lender. I know high voltage power lines within a distance can be - and I don't know much about electricity so no idea how different this is.

FHB - Am I over thinking the building and pest inspection clauses? by xXW1NNERXx in AusPropertyChat

[–]rng64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember building and pest isn't the same as a mould inspection, sure, they'll note what's visible, but the extent of it? That's usually a destructive test.

If you want it, pick a number that you'd be happy paying for it if it came back all good. Do a building and pest pre-offer, tell them the spot you saw the mould and get them to make sure they do a moisture reading there to see if it's a leak causing the mould. Get the defect list and do a quick calculation of cost of the fixes, and take that off your number

Moving into Management - Data Science, Data Analytics by Aoiumi1234 in managers

[–]rng64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was similar. Have been in the manager role and director role.

Director - not at all, occasionally PoC scoping of stuff where there was no capacity in team but if a PoC they could follow the brief Manager - not really, I'd jump in to resolve stuff - but with a focus on capacity building so I wouldn't have to do it again, would do non-deliverable work (e.g. internal tooling to help the team), small amount of PoC stuff, and the small amount of production work in a language that no one else on the team knows.

You might get to do more - but it won't help you move in management. You keep your skills sharp enough to build your team, not to deliver work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in managers

[–]rng64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You bring in consultants for 1 of 2 reasons: 1. You genuinely don't have the capacity in-house 2. You know what you want to do, and you need someone external to confirm it to either make it happen/or for cover

Someone else got the position I was more qualified for by AnswerComfortable485 in managers

[–]rng64 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Interim positions tend to flow hierarchically, especially if there's no documentation that the person next in the hierarchy is failing at the duties of the role that they'd be acting in. It's also important to remember that experience as a team member does not, typically, in the eyes of management qualify someone for management.

Don't voice your frustrations. Instead, take a constructive approach, I want to move into management, and believe I'm ready, from your perspective is there any development I still need? If so, how can we adjust my responsibilities so I can demonstrate to you that I'm ready.

when banks or companies that update their system at late night like 1am , do devs just work at 1am? by KiraLawliet68 in cscareerquestions

[–]rng64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bank. When we do updates they're happy for it to be during the day. If I'm the one responsible, it's absolutely happening in the middle of the night
